The ironic thing is that the most frequent posters here are also the most clueless. I've no idea why that is but one would think that they by now would have figured out how to use the ignore button. I suspect that they are snollygoster types. |

CdC, I did read your posts and his. Your first one did not belong in the jokes thread at all. It was a political commentary highlighting Obamas lack of knowldege about certain world leaders. Your second post was a bit more satirish - I didn't think it was funny, but humour is a subjective thing. Excaliburs response to you was excessive - I've already stated that my response to you would have been different. I think it is probably fair to say that you have posted more jokes than any other single person on this forum, and many of tham have been absolutely side-splitting! You really should know by now what constitutes a good joke. I think Jamo was right in closing the thread - what you posted was not a joke, and what you and Excalibur posted in response to each other did not meet that criteria either - first time the joke thread went off topic. Where's my popcorn ? huh ??
I sent a check ..... I got the salt and butter ... but no popcorn :( I WANT MY DEPOSIT BACK !!!! :3DSMILE: |
Geez, Steve - you sound reasonable and logical today. WOW!
The BO stuff was posted to the Joke thread as it was and is more funny than serious, but I suppose if you are one of the people that he's talking about, as seems to be the case relating to one poster at least, it's not funny - but, I thought that it was funny or at least an interesting view of the situation. Anyway, why not simply ask me (or a mod) to remove it - versus a Bullying post? Some of the more frequent posters think that they own this site. |

I have been ignoring the lounge like a good girl for a couple of months now. I obviously have much more fun with my cars than sitting here watching a bunch of losers post ridiculous and pathetic posts behind the anonimity of their computers. They must be out on parole or something.  ok... checking back out!! cya! K |

It really is pathetic that Jamo, or anyone for that matter has to moderate the damn Lounge. It seems that some just drop in here every year or so and stir up trouble and piss a lot of people off and then are gone for another year.
I have a few now listed on the ignore list and it sure seems to make it better. I now do not have to look at two peoples post who have nothing better to do than fight about EVERYTHING because one thinks he is "perfect" and the other one "knows it" (wrongly of course) Jamo is right, we need to police ourselves here. It is BS plain and simple. If a few can't cut out the BS lets ask as a group they BOTH be removed from the forum perminatly. It has been done in circumbstances like this before and it may be time to do it again. Come on, we are adults and it is about damn time we started acting like it. It you don't have anything nice to say get yourself something else to do. |
Warren,
Thanks, I got it. It works pefectly! |
Steve,
The idea of policing ourselves is good except for one thing. As soon as you ask one of the people to kind of tone it down you get a big fight and all kinds of name calling telling you that you are a Phuckng idiot and not a moderator and they will do what they want. I have had so many really nasty direct e-mails, not through the club that I just put them all on my ignore list. I used to PM them and ask them to kind of cool it down and it just made things worse. I think that since the club has grown so much they could use another moderator. If I remember correctly Turk was one before he left. This is in no way a knock on Ron and Jamo as they do a great job, but it has to get to them and a person to replace Turk could maybe take some of the load off. Just my humble thought. Ron :) |
Jamo and I have no problem at all with the workload.
It doesn't take much time at all to keep things running...when everyone co-operates. ...and it won't take much time to correct the current turbulence, either. Thanks for your concern, though. |
I don't personally care what happens with the Lounge, as I come here for Cobras, not political discussions or internet video clips.
BUT... many sites that I am on, have two "lounge" type forums... one for normal activity, and the other for heated debates, topics, etc, etc. Usually called an "anything goes" forum, with warnings to posters of heated topics and off color language and such. While the idea of this kind of forum may be out of the realm of what kind of conduct we want here, it is actually very effective in keeping the rest of the site clean. People who want to post there do, and those who don't want to be involved, stay out. |
Sal,
I belong to a site that has that but it seems to continually spill over and all they have is two big messes. I spend a lot of time in the lounge for two reasons. I no longer have a car and I don't have enough mechanical knowledge to really be of much help to most people, especially those running fuel injection and such. But I do answer as many questions in the other forums as I can. I believe the Ignore Button is the best way to calm this down and if I recall correctly Jamo pointed out to one of our newer members that he should take note of how the folks on that thread were ignoring him. It seems to have helped some in that particular case. We can and should police ourselves as Ron and Jamo have enough to do. But as I stated above, I have tried to talk to a few people off line and have really been threatened with physical violence by one of them. Ron %/ |
I tend to visit a lot of different forums....I have a lot of hobbies.
You notice the same themes among a lot of forum sites. Some sites get rid of their lounge altogether, it becomes too much overhead and too much of a hassle to moderate. Other sites use the lounge as a waste dump, as described. That keeps the other sections clean to discuss the ideas and topics central to the site. In essence, the lounge on MOST sites is designed to talk about political topics, news, jokes, off topic, whatever. That way you can keep non sense to a minimum in the threads where you should be talking about small blocks and suspensions and transmissions and such. It's the lesser of two evils. If you get rid of the lounge, you simply end up having to moderate the rest of the site harder because those kinds of things will pop up. I think that healthy, contrary, even heated discussion is okay. I think that mindless name calling is obviously not productive or valuable at all. The beauty of being free is the ability to have and voice your own opinions. Club Cobra obviously isn't obligated to allow us to exercise our "right" here. You'll find sites with good moderators and bad moderators. Some sites don't allow political or religious discussions at all, (because they often become heated...and usually spill over into the other sections....). As long as someone isn't totally polluting every thread:rolleyes: or degrading threads to the point of name calling, then it's not going to kill everyone to let it go. A little debate and exchange of ideas is healthy. The world would be a pretty boring place if we all thought exactly the same. Again, it's not CC's obligation to provide a chat forum, but it's not like it's killing anyone to do so either. I agree with the ignore function. Then again, I'm mature enough to disagree with someone on one thread and not carry a chip on my shoulder against them in every other thread. Some people are not. |
In case you haven't noticed you can put yourself on your own ignore list.
Sometimes I have to do that. oops,no you can not. "Sorry, no matter how much you try, you can not ignore yourself. " |
Ron61, concerning physcial threats, you mean something like this?

Those kind of threats are from people you will never see, and that makes those people very secure......
