Do I need to shut the Lounge down?

I will...if this crap continues.

Thank you for your expected cooperation.

GlynMeek 04-13-2008 05:13 PM

t'would be shame to penalize everyone just because of the misguided ravings of some fairly easily identifiable miscreants! I think most would agree there does seem to be a couple of 'common threads' to the unpleasantness!

:)

Glyn

PS Jamo, thanks for doing the often thankless but necessary task of 'moderating'. I've noticed you're extremely fair to BOTH ends of the social, intellectual, moral and political spectra, and really do only step in when disaster and insult loom...well done!

mrmustang 04-13-2008 05:34 PM

Jamo,

Apparently you get to keep all of the loonies in California these days. Must be an LA thing ;).

Trust me...nether Ron nor I have any desire to shut down this place. But we also have no desire to sit and herd cats in this one forum 24/7 either. A little self-policing by the group would be helpful

You all have a pretty good idea of who the sh!tstarters are...ignore them. If they want to be part of a good discussion, great. If they throw slings and arrows, don't respond. There's a good reason for that. If Ron or I come into a thread and two or more folks are engaging in BS, we'll take 'em all out. If you don't want to be caught up in it, stay cool and don't respond. Just ignore 'em. Makes a surgical strike possible. ;)

And thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. :)

Jamo,
It does seem this place has gone to hell in a hand basket in a short time. It is as if some are just here to stir up trouble. It is a shame.

Thanks for doing what you do. It would be a shame to penalize us all for the wrong doings of a few though. But it may need to happen to keep the peace. I know I have not responded to a few threads as there is no input right now that would not be picked to pieces for something.

Maybe some "time out" for a few is in order.

Ron61 04-14-2008 05:13 AM

I believe it was Mike that mentioned it while we were on the temporary server but there is an Ignore Option in your control panel. Just put the people that you don't care to read their posts on that list and all you will see is they have posted to a thread. If you really want to see what they said, you can always go open the post and read it.

Jamo,

Thanks to you and Ron for your hard work and I know that I have caused more than my share of problems for both of you. As of now I won't cause any more. Now is it alright if I come to Fresno? :D

Ron :)

What am I missing? It sounds like a brawl is going on somewhere in the lounge......

trularin 04-14-2008 05:52 AM

What in the wide world of "I am lost aqain" happened??

4RE KLR 04-14-2008 07:13 AM

Ron,
How does that ignore work? I have never done that to anyone, but I think now may as good of time as any to give it a try.

There is no need for the kind of crap that is going on and I for one would just as soon not look at it.

4RE KLR 04-14-2008 07:16 AM

Ok,
It is actually pretty easy to figure out.

Go to your control panel and on the left side in Misc. There is a Buddy / Ignore icon. If you click on that, it will let you enter the names of who you wnat to ignore.

It is so easy! Just make sure you add the name to the "Igore" List and not the "buddy" list.

You can still see they have posted but you cannot see what they posted. Works great.

Joke thread temporarily closed.

427sharpe 04-14-2008 07:54 AM

TARNATION!
I knew the dreaded ban hammer was swirling over a couple of heads but...a WHOLE FORUM!
Thats gotta be a record!
I am like Ron seems to be, this is my favorite place here nowadays and it would be a shame to lose it over a couple of trolls.

Ron61 04-14-2008 08:00 AM

Take a look at who started the second joke thread. As for it being locked down temporarily, let it stay locked. I brought the original one back onto the first page. That one has all jokes in it I think.

Ron

cobra de capell 04-14-2008 08:28 AM

Here's another one for your ignore list!

VRM 04-14-2008 08:36 AM

I agree with keeping the joke thread locked - we have the other one, and there is really no need for two.

What the hell happened in here?!? I get a bit busy for a month or so and everything goes to hell!

I seem to recall that someone was making popcorn in another thread - is there any left?

Hey CdC,
Please post your jokes in the other joke thread. You usually have some good ones.

Thanks,
Steve

Excaliber 04-14-2008 09:58 AM

A joke thread is for JOKES. A recent post (by CDC) was nothing more than political commentary not so subtly disguised as a joke. If you want a political debate about the candidates start a new thread, or I will be be glad to discuss such commentary right there IN the 'joke' thread.

There are many other recent examples of stuff hitting the fan in various threads in the lounge as well. It's not a singular event or a singular person causing trouble.

Ah,
My mistake Excalibur - I had not read those that you are talking about. I rather enjoy political humour, but those posts were really outside that definition.
I think that I would have asked CdC or a mod to move the posts to a new thread. Joke threads have always been a bit sacred to me - CdC has certainly posted some great jokes, but these were not among them.

Steve
