Saw two turtles on a trail today
Dammdest thing I have ever seen. Was running some mountain trails. Beautiful weather, nothin could be finer than to be in her... oops! Well, I'm talkin about the turtles. Who would have known that male turtles have legs THAT freekin long? Thought I was looking at some overgrown mushroom with funny colored stalks. Took me at least a minute to realize what I was seeing.
Ah. Nature. In slow motion.
Mike (who just blew the frog stories outta the water)

Reminds of another turtle story. I was working on Kwajalien atoll (Marshall Islands group), 6 days a week, off on Sundays. It's an ATOLL, it's not like there is a lot of things to do. Ok fishing, snorkeling, counting crabs on the beach, hey, it get's old after a few months. On one end of the island they had a pretty large salt water enclosure area with a few sea turtles in it. I wandered down there on my day off to watch them and by golly two of 'em were 'getting it on'! Unreal! Quite a site watching turtles 'do it'. They swim in a circle, with the female having to hold her breath a LONG time while the male just takes his time. She manages to stick her head up every once in awhile, get a breath and then it's 'back to work'. Entertained me all afternoon.
TV? Yeah we got a few military channels, thats about it, contractors lived in trailors called the 'man camp'. I was watching my freakin' SCREEN SAVERS on the computer like it was TV.

I saw an article in the paper a few days ago and then on TV where they had found some species of Giant turtles. They showed one swimming in the water and that thing was as large or larger than and sea turtle I have ever seen. His head looked as if it was about 10" across and the shell was large enough to stand on. And according to the report, larger ones had been seen in that lake. Wish I could remember where it was.
