another American hero lost
Defense Department has announced the passing of Marine Sgt. Merlin German. I first met Merlin last year when I became involved with Operation Comfort/ Automotivation. He was and still is quite an inspiration to all of us.
Merlin was injured in a bomb blast in Iraq and received burns over 97% of his body and was dubbed "the miracle man" by the people at BAMC.
Last year he was interviewed by the Associated Press and said "sometimes I do think that I can't do it. Then I think why not? I can do whatever I want....Nobody has ever been 97% dead and survived, and lived to walk."
I spoke with him often and never once was I saddened but always uplifted. He endured more than 40 surgeries and spent 17 months in the hospital.
He founded a charity to help children burn victims called "Merlin's Miracles"
Like so many of the Heroes that I have been blessed to meet, I wish that more of you could have that oportunity.
Rest in peace Merlin, America is better beause of you.
Jay

This will NOT turn into a political discussion.
Thank you for your expected cooperation.

this post was made in the lounge for that reason. It has nothing to do with cobras. If posting in the lounge was the wrong idea then move it to wherever you wish. Nothing was said about politics in my post. What WAS said is that America lost a hero.
Or was it moved for some reason? I thought that I posted correctly.
After going back and reviewing the history of this I see that it was moved to the lounge where I thought I was. Thanks.
Jay

Actually, my friend...you posted it in All Cobra Talk. I moved it here.
My comment was to the post immediately preceeding mine, and to insure that no such further remarks are offered which detract from your thread's good message as originally intended.

Indeed, it was heart breaking to see this soldier pass on. I'm not sure what happened, last I heard he was doing OK. It took me by surprise.

Jay,
I feel very sad that he never made it. I just hate to see anyone who has went through so much and seemed to be on the way to recovery not continue. I wish I had the chance to meet him and thank him and all of the people over there for what they are doing for us. He and all the rest will be in my prayers.

Heros
You know I have meet a bunch of these heros. There the 18+ kids, men and women who take it to the bad guys everyday. I am amazed at how young they look. twice my age and so very innocent looking. I am proud to serve with them. Seen too much not get emotional abou this topic. I amready to come home.
I just couldn't finish the article in Stars and stripes it hurt to much.
God Bless him and all those who serve.

Jay,
I am sorry to hear about Merlin. I saw mention of his passing nationally on one of the cable news channel crawlers. His high spirits, after all he had been through, really showed unparalleled character.
