Default Extreme air filter clearance issues!

Hey guys, I'm having some trouble getting an air filter to fit under my hood. I have a cobra filter that I machined the top edges off of and machined the base to fit the filter extremely snugly on top of the distributor. Still, the front nose of the filter doesn't clear the hood. The only thing I can find to fit under the hood is a filter ~2" tall and the diameter of the carberurator base.... 5 some inches. Does anyone have any good low clearance, small width filters they could point me to?

Thanks,
Lance

I don't remember the brand name but most car parts and accessory places around here sell them. I got a billet one that was of the long type like the Cobra cleaners but was shorter and used the K&N filter. It worked great and gave me plenty of clearance. No machine work or anything to get it to clear anything.

what motor, manifold, carb are we using >?

Remember adding 10ths, eventually adds up to full inches.

Can you drop your motor down in the chassis>? is your engine tilted rearward due to a trans mount tunnel issue >?

I'm running a 347 stroker, edelbrock (which one escapes me right now... RPM performer?) intake and a demon carb. It's an old NW exotics body with custom motor mounts. The engine can not be dropped down. the engine is tilted rearward, so a filter that extends quite a ways forwards of the carb is going to be the biggest issue with bonking the hood.

If your hood scoop is like most you will have the most clearance in the front. But the long COBRA type filter may still hit. I had that problem when I had my car and I switched to the type I mentioned in a previous post and it worked great for the 8 years I had the car and had plenty of clearance. I believe it was about half the length of the COBRA filter and the same width.

Sounds like the same problem I have.

I ended up with a 9 inch Extreme top and 2" tall sides.

I ended up with 1/2 inch of clearance.

Very tight.
