Default The Cobra's Negation...

Well... got the itch for another toy that I just HAD to scratch. Had entertained thoughts of getting an '03/'04 Mustang SVT Cobra convertible, but really didn't want to part with that much cash right now.

Decided to go polar-opposite/diametrically-opposed from the Cobra. What vehicle would fill this requirement, yet still be fun, you ask?

Why, a BAJA BEETLE, of course!

... it's a '69 Beetle with the Baja kit on it. Engine is a '72 1600cc dual port engine with electronic ignition and a WHOPPING 54 horsepower! Hasn't leaked a drop of oil yet! Is backed up by a "Freeway Flyer" transmission, so does pretty good on the freeway. Drove it home on Sunday (about 75 miles) & did 70 mph all the way back without incident. Even held 4th gear through the passes. ... never fails to elicit a reaction. People either smile, laugh, or both.

Was a little rougher cosmetically than I would've liked, but has been well-maintained mechanically. Doors lock, windows roll up, wipers work, as do headlights, parking lights, turn signals, & flashers. Has a 160 mph speedo out of a Porsche (which I found amusing), but all the gauges & idiot lights work. the only things that don't work are the sunroof, heater, and horn. Should be a fun project. Can't wait to go play in the dirt with it! The guys at work are all begging me to keep the cammo paint job... we'll see.

It's cheap (to buy and insure), relatively economical, doesn't require smog, easy to work on, and parts are pretty cheap.

"Sargeant Beasley" even has a cameo appearance in the upcoming "Fast-N-Furious 4"... which I thought was hilarious. Icing on the cake.

I know how you feel, I kinda want a white 914. I was in one once and as soon as we hit a couple of corners, I thought go-cart. I did a little window shopping and a clean driver seems to go for around 4K.

A good friend of mine drove this in the mid 80's.
We call him Sick Vic.

That's Vics sister in the last one looking like she does not want to be seen. He is currently working on a Jag XJS with a SB Chevy LT1 Corvette motor. It will be painted Mopar Panther Pink with Mopar style black striping and it will be called Bad Kitty.
