Default 427 Cobra Engine 1966 - ?

Hello,

I have an ERA cobra that from what i understand has an original 427 cobra engine in it. The person i bought it from was telling me that the engine will be worth more than the car one day. How can i find out if it is an original 427 FE.

The original builder bought the engine from someone who's cobra was side swiped. Rebuilt it and placed it in the ERA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Peter

Peter, you need to know what your looking for or, find someone locally that knows?. or.......buy Steve Christ, 'how to build a big block ford'. It will be necessary to pull the heads and oil pan to know what you really have...imo.

Peter,

You didn't say if it was a side oiler or not.If not, you may have a 428 engine as Shelby used them in a series of the CSX 3XXX cars and then went back to the 427 dual 4 barrel engines for the end of the run.
As for it coming out of an original Cobra, that is going to be very hard to determine as it would take an excellent paper trail and they just never kept that good of records back then. Just drive the car and enjoy what you have.

Ron

Don't know if it's true but, I've heard that some, supposedly S/O blocks, have bogus S/O bolts?.
