That's more along the lines when I say equal tax. Yes I understand those that make next to nothing cannot pay the same. Maybe fair should have been used instead of equal.

To fix the problem, first you must identify the problem. How long do you think it will take for the politicians to admit the problem is them? Passing incredibly stupid laws like the CRA, requiring banks to make BAD loans [not "sub-prime loans, that is cop out doublespeak], BAD loans that do not and will not EVER be paid and certainly not be profitable. When Government "regulates' business, we all pay about 40% more just to cover the regulations requirements. Some regulation is a necessary evil. But when Government gets involved in telling business HOW to do its business. We cannot EVER hope to be able to afford that.
You gripe that oil companies are bad because they make so much money, even tho the margins are not excessive. It is just that the volume is so large. To be against them for that is Unamerican.
To the business community, MONEY is the AIM and result of successful business operation.

To the Government, MONEY is a tool used to wield power. They have no clue how to or interest in creating money. Just using it.

Personaly, I'm investing in torches and pitchforks the march starts when they take the money I worked my ass off to put away for when I can't work any more. Only to give it to some lazy crackhead to keep voting them in. Because I have no faith in a government that thinks we are nothing but sheeple.
easily kept needing them to keep us alive. Wait till we can't get proper health care because we have lived a full life and we can no longer produce for society.

Because of the volume of money involved with the oil companies they should in fact be taxed accordingly. Nothing wrong with making a profit, even a lot of profit, now step up and do what's right for the people your making that profit from.

That's for sure the liberal line, but we live in a capitalist society and there is no such thing as too much profit. Besides, more than a few of us own stock in the oil companies so a new tax would be in effect a new tax on us as shareholders. Excaliber, once again (and as always) you don't get it - corporations, including oil companies, are only legal entities - they are owned by in some cases millions of entities (people) partly through 401K investments. Why tax anyone more at this time, especially given the fact that, in this case, oil companies will plow profits back into development or pay profits out in dividends which will be taxed?

Taxes to libs are like crack to a drug addict. They can never have enough if they could figure out a way to tax you for breathing they would. We have become unwilling enablers by wanting that free hand out and voting for these self deprecating thugs. If you need someone(government) to take care of you, I feel you shouldn't get to vote. No I don't mean those that really need it, yes there are those that have bad things happen to them and need help or just a boost, I mean couch surfing check cashing welfare brood mares who reproduce faster than rabbits. We can't expect this to fix itself we have to cut these people off and get them to fend for them selves or they will suck the resources of society completely dry.

"Usery", the definition doesn't quite fit the potential for big oil's profits, but it's close enough. "Enron" doesn't quite fit either, but the lesson's there should not be lost. Price gouging? When you have such giants in the land, and there are many, they need to be watched, taxed and regulated in the best interest of the country and National Security. Left to police themselves is what got us into the current mess! IS big oil 100% honest, trust worthy, taxed appropriatly and regulated enough? Maybe, maybe not, big profits create big greed, this needs to be examined to make sure the tax structure and oversight is within reason.

The stock answer of course is that anyone calling for such oversight is an instant 'liberal', a pathetic attempt to ignore the elephant in the room!

Well, like I warned in another thread...I'm not in a particularly good mood today...bad day for a couple of you to pick.

CDC...three days off. One more over the line scenario, and it will be for an extended period.

Ernie...you also get three days off. You go into threads and then piss and moan about the other guy's position, and end up whinig and throwing cuss words back at em after complaining about them cussing. You left the Lounge complaining, and then came back of your own free will...and jump into the threads that pissed you off the first time. I suggest you reevaluate whether you need to be at the Lounge at all (I know we will next time you show up).
