Why do so many people dream about punching or shooting someone? The fact that one cannot through an effective punch is also amazing.

I do have one other strange dream. In this dream I can fly without the assistance of any machine. Just jump up and act almost like I am swimming. Again, I have heard others talk of this one.

That's the truth, Mike. I thought the inability to throw an effective punch, or run, might be related to a deep historic awareness of the useless muscles of a cold reptile.

The idea of flying as though one swims is perhaps related to swimming as a fish did. Perhaps flying as a bird is seated in a dim memory of swimming in all three axis instead of the earth-bound sentence of most critters.

It is said that all animals seem to have an inborn fear of overhead shadows, snakes and falling. All lil' critter fears of eons ago.

I sometimes have a dream of being on a tire swing we had as kids. It had a very long rope and would swing quite high. I dream I can keep going, gliding just above the treetops in our yard ...as long as I hold out my arms, legs and concentrate. But if I lose concentration, I fall.

Since railroading, I have occasional nightmares about stopping or an inablity to steer if I slip off the rail. Sometimes I can turn the train around and go back, but then I'm worried I'm going the wrong way. I've had a few nightmarish scares with real brake problems.

I imagine folks flying aircraft have fears of falling; and folks piloting boats have fears of driving underwater or being stuck in a doldrum at full power.

The flying part:
During a recent trip I saw a flock of partridge on the track just ahead. They flew up at the last minute but not soon enough, must have hit 4-5 of them.
The headlights flashed with an electric arc and went out. I was going about 50 mph and suddenly there was freaky pitch black so I set air to stop. I blew a crossing blind so I wouldn't get fired for it being missing on the tapes. As I slowed down, the conductor looked out front and only one out of 4 bulbs was broke. I gave him my flashlight and he found breakers to reset in the rear cabinets. My thought is; what if that happened in a car where both the headlights went at once. Lot more scary IMO.
