Stimulus Watch
http://www.stimuluswatch.org/project/by_state
Go to the site noted above to see what projects are within the Stimulus Package for your state, even your city.
A few interesting one's -
Laurel, MS - $99,600 for doorbells.
“The Housing Authority has various needs,” [Housing Authority Executive Director Kay] Guy said. “These units are very old. They do not have central air and heat. The older units do not have enclosed closets and all the drainage needs to be upgraded.
“With the doorbells, I was looking at upgrades for my elderly units and the overall housing authority,” she said. “Doorbells were just a very small portion of our needs. ... We listed doorbells because there was a request from our Residents Council.”
Natchez, MS - $600,000 to create an African American/Ethnic Heritage Trail.
Forks of the Road Heritage Trail. This project would greatly enhance one of the primary gateways to our city by creating an African American/Ethnic Heritage Trail along a stretch of St. Catherine Street between the Forks of the Road Slave Market Site
City official from Natchez, MS, contacted Stimulus Watch to let us know that the total cost for this project was apparently misreported in the U.S. Conference of Mayors' MainStreet Economic Recovery Report, which is the source document for this website. We hope city officials will provide information on this wiki with correct details.
An article in the Natchez Democrat further explains that the $600 million figure in the U.S. Conference of Mayors report is incorrect. The correct amount, according to an official quoted in the article, is $1 million.
____
There are 634 Housing Projects - review that list - appears to go primary to housing authority projects - in other words - low income housing. Those projects are in the billions and billions range. Now, hmmmm....that's going to stimulate what?
The bottomline - votes with everyone at the low end getting something - cash or improvements to housing. My guess is that everyone posting here may end up with something, but you will have to pay it back at tax time and some extra to help fund the African American/Ethnic Heritage Trail along with doorbells.
The Stimulus Package - if passed........

'O'NO!' talked passionately about using the 'scalpel' to cut waste, he substituted a shovel
to 'spread' the waste, AKA $hit.

Wow, I checked the list and my city of only about 100k is getting almost 15 million. All the projects though are usually done by city workers (roads and parks). Unless the city plans on hiring a bunch of people (which I doubt) how does this stimulate the economy?

Guys ... check out NoStimulus.com . Read their petition, sign and submit if you agree . The website crashed earlier today due to it being overloaded because of everyone trying to sign their petition .
If we flood our Congressmen/women and Senators ... just maybe they will grow a pair and listen to us ( though a Congresswomen growing a pair may not be possible ... or desirable ) .
I know ... I`m an optimist ... but I have to try to do something .

And here's another part of the package that can kill you....
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=aLzfDxfbwhzs
Snip......(this section of the stimulus package is virtually right out of Tom Dashchle recent book)
The bill’s health rules will affect “every individual in the United States” (445, 454, 479). Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. Having electronic medical records at your fingertips, easily transferred to a hospital, is beneficial. It will help avoid duplicate tests and errors.
But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”
Keeping doctors informed of the newest medical findings is important, but enforcing uniformity goes too far.
Snip.....
Daschle says health-care reform “will not be pain free.” Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them. That means the elderly will bear the brunt.
Medicare now pays for treatments deemed safe and effective. The stimulus bill would change that and apply a cost- effectiveness standard set by the Federal Council (464).
The Federal Council is modeled after a U.K. board discussed in Daschle’s book. This board approves or rejects treatments using a formula that divides the cost of the treatment by the number of years the patient is likely to benefit. Treatments for younger patients are more often approved than treatments for diseases that affect the elderly, such as osteoporosis.
_____
If you are getting up there in years, kiss your ass goodbye (after suffering a lot of pain)....

I wonder if he is going to apply that to any of the dam 80 year old Congressmen who spent their whole lives feeding off the public and working class. I guess since they are already mostly lawyers, no slam against honest lawyers intended, they now think they should make themselves doctors as well.

And then this really intelligent remark in a speech trying to point out that there is no pork in his Stimulus bill.
Obama told his Elkhart audience that Indiana will benefit from work on "roads like U.S. 31 here in Indiana that Hoosiers count on." He added, "And I know that a new overpass downtown would make a big difference for businesses and families right here in Elkhart."
U.S. 31 is a north-south highway serving South Bend, 15 miles from Elkhart in the northern part of the state.

Ron - only technically there is no pork in the package, basically no one congress person put anything in the package, the democrat leadership put everything that everyone wanted in the package - so, Obama is not technically lying, but lying nonetheless.
Also, Freddie/Fannie just announced that they will need up to $200 Billion more to cover loses. Apparently, a lot of the refinanced mortgages are now going south.
So, here's a plan - let's spend $1 Trillion (that we need to borrow to spend) to solve the problem! /s

From Rush......
That’s what Daschle says: you just need to become accepting. Seniors need to become accepting of their condition. Basically, you need to just go away and die. We don’t have the money. I’ll tell you the architect for this. I mean, she credits Daschle, but who was that governor in Colorado? It was Richard Lamm of Colorado: Old people have “a duty to die.” Get out of the way because they’re putting too much pressure on the health care system. Younger people, they’ll get the treatment because it will be more cost effective. The statistics say they’ll live longer. Now, the reason that I’m harping on this... We got the call from the nurse. I wanted to tell her what was in this bill to reflect... This is in the stimulus bill. This is national health care, essentially. It is in the “stimulus bill,” and they snuck it in.
Daschle advised Obama, “Stick it in here because the way the Clintons tried it failed. They went big. They went all in. It allowed for people to oppose it and tear it apart. Do it stealthily. Do it where nobody knows it’s happening,” like the amnesty bill was tried. There are so many things like this in the stimulus bill that have nothing to do with stimulus but have everything to do with advancing the liberal agenda and strengthening and repairing the Democrat Party. Now, the Democrats, every campaign cycle, love to run around and accuse the Republicans of wanting to deny senior citizens Social Security, maybe kick ‘em out of their houses or what have you. It is the Democrat apart which is essentially, in the stimulus bill, setting up procedures whereby the older you are, the more likely you are to have treatment denied simply because it isn’t gonna be worth the money.
Now, this is what happens when you throw yourself open to prospects of other people paying for what you need. Now, I know in health care it’s practically impossible not to do that. It’s a shame it has gotten to this point because it imprisons people, but here’s the very party that throws around these accusations about Republicans wanting to deny senior citizens their Social Security or cut their benefits or whatever, basically telling them, “Get out of the way and die,” and the page numbers are cited, if you want to read this in the stimulus bill itself. This is a job-creation stimulus bill that announces this kind of stuff, a national health care czar with a whole bureaucracy? The computerization of all health care records? The federal government in charge of what doctors can do to treat people using “guidelines,” and there are federal penalties for doctors who do not follow the guidelines? These things are not specified yet; that’s going to be left up to the bureaucrats in charge of this new department to come up with.
But it’s crucial that people understand this. Even if this is new information to a lot of you, there are so many things like this that have nothing to do with creating jobs, nothing whatsoever to do with reviving the economy that are laced throughout this debacle, and it is why calls in opposition in Washington are at hundreds-to-one against this, all over the place. And that’s why the Bamster is out there hustling it this week. That’s why the Bamster is out there doing these town meetings and trying to get the public that he can swerve to support this to do so, because it’s in trouble — and the Republicans, again, are faced with a golden opportunity here. They, too, can read what Betsy McCaughey — or better yet, they can read the legislation themselves! They’re the ones voting on it. They can see what’s in here, and they can hold it up and say, “This is not stimulus! This has nothing to do with jobs. This is just the exact opposite. This is liberalism. This is government expansion, uncontrolled right here in the stimulus. You are being hoodwinked. You are being fooled.” Once again, they’re presented with an opportunity.

Is it a coincidence that my county that vote overwhelmingly Republican, gets not one cent from the "stimulus package?"
And why don't 'THEY' call it what it really is?
The largest re-election vote buying bribe in the history of man. That is the SOLE purpose of the Democrap 'stimulus plan.' AND it happens to "PAY OFF" their 'Special Interests' without ANY danger of a future corruption investigation. A near perfect bill! Except for the ruination of the United States as we know it.
The town hall meeting, and the press conference. The same TIRED campaign speeches. Does he not know the election is over, or is he working on the next election, campaigning, doing the ONLY thing he's good at.

Quote: the work has only just begun for congressional leaders in the House and Senate, who now must reconcile the differences between their two versions of the bill during what's known as a conference committee.
Maybe this week, maybe not......Depends on how nasty it gets.

Maybe Teddy Kennedy should listen to Daschle and accept that he has terminal cancer, and not waste money or resources on the experimental treatments he is receiving.
