Well, I wouldn't call it "the worst ticket" I could have gotten. But little Brother and I took a leisurely drive up Little and Big Cottonwood canyons this afternoon. In the spirit of youthful exuberance once we arrived at the near empty parking lot of Brighton ski resort, we opted for a couple broadies before parking and heading into the lodge for a little warmth. Our smiles were quickly erased by the local Shire Reeve who was initially tremendously annoyed by our thanks giving outburst. He sternly asked for required documents before walking back to get his ticket book en route to ticketing us both for wreckless endangerment.

A calm and honest attitude on our part got us off with barely a warning. Frankly, we deserved whatever was coming our way but we were just cool about it and he responded by being cool back. Several things helped. My age was one. He realized he wasn't dealing with young idiots, but middle aged idiots. I'm sure he viewed me as someone who survived youthful idiocy to migrate to middle aged idiocy so I couldn't be too big an idiot. I also said having a groovy car helped. "I mean, if I attempted that in a Chevy Cavalier?""You'd a got a ticket" he interupted with a smile.

I guess the moral of the story is - the Sherrif at Brighton doesn't tolerate broadies in the parking lot on Thanksgiving day, but can be swayed to forego a citation if you have a good attitude and a shiny car.

I was pulled over driving one of these...

Over height, over weight, over width, no flag cars, no CDL, ect... Nearly $20 k in fines.

I told the officer that I was just told that a log truck had flipped over and was blocking the highway a few miles away in the next county and I was going to clear the wreck.

He let me go on my way...

Darn Scott, that is something that would work great in the freeway traffic around the Bay Area. I had to drive like mad to outrun them in Ernie's Miata when I drove it up from Hayward.
