That is as good of an explanation as I have seen in any of the books. Kind of reminds me of the debates we had in school about light and colors. Since color was then determined to be the reflection of light off a surface that showed a color, then since black doesn't reflect light it must not be a color. A lot of days went into that discussion and a lot of books and theories were brought up. One of them was that since you light is absorbed by black you know it is black because you can't see it.
