Homeowners insurance, who do you use
Ok, so my wife got a letter in the mail yesterday that my current insurer (USAA) was going to cancel our insurance on both of our houses in 30 days. Their reasoning is due to an ATV theft claim. This claim was made as we were filing a police report... the next day, the ATV was returned by a friend who had borrowed it but somehow the message was never passed and so on. SO, I called and cancelled the claim. How the hell can they cancel over a bunk claim that was cancelled??? I haven't had a cance to call USAA yet, I will do that as soon as they open. I can't see how a company can cancel someone in perfectly good standing because of a cancelled claim. If they cancel my house, they lose everything. Houses, cars, ATV's... what a joke!!!
So who do you have? I got a quote to insure just my vehicles through Allstate and they were $50/mo higher than my current plan with the exact same policy and that's with my wife now being a full time student!!! |
Call your agent!

I have Liberty Mutual for cars & house.

Auto-owners, they have been very good for us. Near 25 years.
Dump who you have, they have no sense of loyalty. :D :D |
I use State Farm for everything. They work great for me.

What a freaking Joke!!! It is being cancelled due to misrepresentation of a claim. Because i filed a theft claim and later cancelled the claim that it had been found. Are you freaking kidding me?!?!
|
So they never paid a dime? Write a letter (and copy your agent) to your state insurance commissioner explaining the cancellation of the claim.
You'll need to do this anyway since your cancellation will show up anywhere else you go and you'll need to explain it to your new policy holder. |

I had USAA also for nearly 20 years, same thing...two claims (in 4 years) and they dumped me. Took the house, cars and boat over to State Farm and actually got a rate for everything for a cost of $12 more a month then USAA was before the claims. Had one claim with State Farm, and my rates didn't increase one penny. State Farm has a nice packages for Cobra's or other exotics that won't break the bank either.

Thanks guys, I had state farm before USAA nad will likely go back to them after I get a good quote. It's tough to get a quote on my rental since it's in a different state.
With USAA, you don't really have an "agent." You have whomever you are lucky enough to get on the phone. No, there was never a dime paid on the claim, It was opened one day and closed 2 days later. I still have the messages from the agent I was dealing with requesting more info to process the claim!!! |
We have USAA and had a "microburst"take 1/3 of our roof off at 1600.They were here by 1100 the next day and we had a check in the bank by 1300 that day.Still with them.

Good luck with that!!!
I had a car burn up in my driveway... have the pics! Took them a month just to get the hazard out of my driveway. By that time my cats were black from soot, my dog had tracked the soot all through the house, everyones shoes were ruined, and everytime my 2yr old went outside, she was covered in soot. Had to carry her everywhere. Then it took another month to get them to cut the check. All the vinyl siding on one side of my house needed replaced, they hired a contractor that was based 100miles away, took them a month to get an estimate, another to get the materials, 2 days to complete the job, and then they left 4" nails all over my yard and driveway that I had to clean up! Bill, you are a lucky one! All you gotta do is google USAA to find the horror stories. My buddy had the same thing happen when he totalled his car, took them almost 2 months to make a determination. |
Another vote for State Farm.
|
I currently have all my info in to State farm and Allstate. i got a quote from allstate before and the Agent was GREAT! Only reason i didn't switch is because the auto was a little high. But I already got my auto quote back and it's $12/mo higher than my old policy. I'll gladly pay the $12 vs going without a car for 2 months waiting for USAA to make a determination and issuing the money.

Allstate...for decades.
|
Allstate is currently the frontrunner. They actually tweaked it a little more and got me a couple dollars under what I was paying for car insurance. Now for the homeowners.
Jamo, I thought for sure you would feel sorry for my cats being covered in soot!! haha |
We used to smudge to keep young tomato plants from freezing...I thought all dogs and cats were black in the winter. ;)
|
OH AND IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER!!!!!
This one can piggy back on my earlier rant about USPS. Apparently they sent this letter of cancellation via snail mail because My wife recieved it in the mailbox on saturday the 15th of August. The Effective cancellation date...... THE 14TH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did in fact submit a claim through PA insurance Commission. Apparently Auto owners doesn't do PA? One of the 25 states they don't service. :( |
Sorry to hear that.
What was the postmark on the letter? It will have the date the post office cancelled the stamp or imprint. That will tell you when they actually got the letter in the mail to you. Don't they have to at least let you know they are going to cancel your insurance? Dang. :D |

Also, most insurance companies will give you a nice discount if you have your homeowners policy as well as your autos with them..... Not familar with USAA, but something just doesn't sound right with this whole deal..........I would certainly call the insurance commisioner/commision and check into this......... David |
