I love to hear guys ask for 'cars like stock'...
I owned a Talledega for quite some time, and I can assure you that it was NOT a 'stock' car'! lots of hand made one off parts with a run barely long enough to homologate for the good ole' boys. The front bumper got tweaked once and I had to spend a crazy amount to get one made. They were 'recrafted' rear bumpers, by the way.
Point is, these cars haven't been anywhere near 'stock' since way before NASCAR left the beach!

Stock to me is "the body exactly to manufactures standard dimensions +/- 1/2". Be able to change everything that you want except the body shape, wheel base, ect.
Keep the engine to 358CI max and even limit the max HP if they want.
Let them b!tch and complain about the down force.
If anything it would slow them down and provide for better racing, maybe.

Nobody expects pure stock in a race car. But how about a single part, however tiny, that was EVER in a Ford, Dodge, GM, or Toyota factory.
The only part that comes from the "factory" is the check.

I think the COT looks too much like a "tuner car" with the "wing" and the goofy looking"splitter".

I think most of the racing fans would do the same. There are better ways to slow them down on the Super Speedways and it would make for much better racing, instead of who just got lucky and was in front when the race ended. And if they could actually race and pass, maybe some of the huge and expensive wrecks would not happen.

GM offered FI on the vette starting in 1964. Later it was brought back in 1982 (cross fire). The Japanese and German cars as well as Italian and English all went FI right around the same time to meet emission and mileage requirements.
I don't see where clinging to obsolete induction systems somehow benefits the sport.

I really think nascar race cars should have injection to be more efficient, since in all other aspects, they are really like the cars we drive every day. And as far as expense, I have been told that the carburetor costs are 90% of the total cost of one of these cars. I know the engineering in my suburban directly has benefitted from NASCAR. As stated, I think everybody would be more interested in the sport if these cars were cheaper to build.

What is relevant about NASCAR? Do they USE ANY part of a stock car anymore? They build these cars from the ground up. Then they have a sheet metal (or fiberglass) guy bolt on a body shell that LOOKS like a car in production.
Personally, I love the fuel belching monsters. To hell with folks wanting to make NASCAR PC. If they are not going to use stock cars, then screw it.
Next it will be turbocharged 4 bangers producing 700 hp. Yeah, I think I'll go down to the parts store and get me some parts to do the same thing.
I wonder how the folks will cheat with FI.

Can you imagaine all the hidden programs that would be written?The opportunity would be un-limited.It would make Petty & his flask of juice in his Firesuit pocket pale in comparison.

Smokey Yunick.......wasn't he the one that built and raced a 7/8 Grand National, until someone noticed, along with using the roll bars/cage for extra fuel storage ? FI would open up new performance " opportunities " for the creative engine builders/crew chiefs, or the control modules etc would be handed to the Teams upon arrival at the track. Post race inspection process would be interesting.
Do the race fans really care if there is FI or a carb ? Or, would rather see other changes to improve side by side racing/passing and eliminate the need for a restrictor plate while bringing back the slingshot.

Unfortunately, this is the part of the sport that NASCAR does their best to eliminate. Why they just don't just hand out cars they've had built and be done with it... (kinda like IROC)
It should be more than just the driver, why they still call them "teams" is beyond me. NASCAR doesn't seem to have a clue what a team is. (not to mention crew mechanics don't get asked to peddle potato chips)
One of my favorite "cheats" was when they specified fuel tank size, they forgot to spec the fuel line though. Then found a car with about 100' of fuel line.  Not really cheating, just a crafty mechanic.
There was another "weighted rims" trick that I heard about, plus the droppable weights that the pit crew would remove at the first pit. Now this was cheating, but hey, it's just part of the sport. (well, it was anyway)
