Default Please help me find "my" car!

Like a fool, I sold my first car, a 1977 Mustang Cobra in about 1980. I am trying to track it down. All I have been able to find out is that it was last titled in 1992 in southern Illinois. I do have the VIN. It has had 11 owners. Can someone please give me some guidance - is it going to be possible to track it down? Thanks!

If you know someone in the police dept. they can run the vin in all 50 states to see if the car is currently registered, and to whom. I have done this with a vin number I was looking for a few years ago.

An insurance company rep may also be able to help.

Thanks for your suggestions. Car fax does not go back to 1977. I did try the DMV of Illinois, and they said the last time it was titled was 1992. They have the name/address, etc, but cannot give it out. They did tell me it was in Rosiclare, IL. I've called about 10 people in that town, and no one knows anything about it. I don't know anyone in Law Enforcement to ask. I thought, even if I could ask State Police to run the VIN - maybe the police can call the person listed as last owner, and ask them to call me??
Thanks... keep thinking with me!!! SOMEONE has got to know what happened to it!
