Default Vermont Inspection (geezum crow!)

Hi there-

Anyone have advice on getting a CSX4000 series Shelby inspected in Vermont? Do I honestly need a defroster? Any/all help appreciated... although I bet I may be the only green-mountain Cobra up here...

Thanks a bunch

-JT

Jason my man... I'll post my reply here as a message in a bottle to any Vermonters who may pass this way in the future:

So far, I know that VT DMV will accept a Manufacturers Certificate of Origin (sometimes called an "MSO") to register the vehicle. They will not title it. In my case (Shelby CSX 4775) I'm all set I believe. Hope.

Inspection, so far, I'm not that knowledgeable about. There was a guy on this forum who had a "427 Contemporary Classic - Factory Built By Contemporary" over in Barre-- he was able to get his inspected, so I think we both are ok on that front. If you wanna see a Cobra in a real Vermont barn yard, take a look here. Nice car, nice guy, and yeah, he sold it. Poor guy had a back injury.

Here's some links:

Vermont DMV:
http://www.aot.state.vt.us/dmv/dmvhp.htm

PDF File of the Inspection Manual, which talks, specifically, about kit cars starting on page 126:

http://www.aot.state.vt.us/dmv/HOME/...NBulletins.htm

Oh and don't forget to call your insurance agent... they're gonna wanna hear ALL about your new car ;-)

"Some day" will have to be April- new roller comes in February, will be swinging the motor in shortly thereafter, and hope to be driving soon after that! Good luck.

Lurk,
You'll be happy to know that there several other Cobra owners in the Green Mt State. When out for a ride keep your eyes opened in Rutland, Brandon, Weathersfield and Andover. I live in Andover and have been driving my Superformance for about 3 years. What part of the state are you in?

Dave! Alright! Glad to see more Vermonters. I'm up N of you in the White River/Hanover/Woodstock area.

How was inspecting your car, anyway? At this point, I'm assuming it can be done and taking the rest on faith that others have gone down this road before-- but haven't gotten any reliable first hand accounts, and there seems to be a number of ways to interpret the inspection guidelines depending on what you have.

Only Cobra I've seen in 7 years up here was 2 weekends ago on Route 5 in Norwich... any chance it was you? Didn't get a good look at it, but sure enjoyed listening to it for a long time as it rumbled down the street at 25 MPH...

Anyway.. it'd be great to get some other snake-bit Vermonters online here just for grins.

Thanks for checking in.

Default Vermont Snakes

I live in the Burlington area and I will have my Cobra out this spring (I Hope) I think all of us Vermonters and maybe NH should get together for a drive through.

Lets keep it going

Registration was a snap. Just took it to the local gas station. The first time they didn't have clue. Registered as a '96 Ford, but has no computer plugin, not emission contols,no cats nothing. Called M.V. and was told to treat it as kit car. Check horn, brake lights, and turn signals. Done!! I think it chapter 13 in the M.V. inspection manual. Good luck.

Old thread, I know. I'm in Bristol now, recently relocated. Does VT require a Backup Light on the Cobra? Our daily Cars had to have them working for the inspection. I haven't registered the 289 yet

We took a ride last weekend to Vt in lieu of our usual Mohawk Trail ride until that road gets put back together. 17 Cobras in southern Vt. Here is the link.

Original poster has to be a true Vermonter... haven't heard "geezum crow" since junior-high in Malletts Bay back in the early 70's!

Welcome to our neck of the woods, it was a pleasure meeting you and your wife the other night at our club (Green Mountain Cobra's) holiday party. Looking forward to seeing your FIA and cruising the back roads of VT with you and the rest of our gang!

The answer to your back up light question, if you havent already figured it out, is "NO". If your car is registered as 1964 in Vermont, then you only need to comply with the requirements of 1964, with a few exceptions. My FFR is registered as a 1965 and the only thing I needed to have that wasn't original equipment was a horn, seat belts, and windshield wipers.

Hope this helps.

By the way...I thought my wife was the only one that says Jezum Crow!

Mike
