Default newbie---about to buy question about registration

Hey...I'm sure these things have been hashed out many times but I did a search and couldn't find anything current. I'm looking at two Cobras---one a kit car built and now registered in NH as 65 ford, the other a superformance car in ct, titled and registered in arizona also as 65 ford. What is the process for registering this car in MA(they are already titled as 65s)---will there be special restrictions either noise or emissions? Thanks, Tom the pre-newbie

Tom,

Where are you located? If in MA it might be easier to get a car from MA. Will have pre-inspection and the like. My car came from MA and actually carries a MA#.

I live in NH so it was easy, they recognize MA# so there were no issues.

Best of luck!

I'm near boston. I'm going to check to see if an AZ vin/titled Superformance made cobra is easy to register. Ditto with a NH vin #/titled and registered car. Don't know if it matters if it's factory made or not. If it's a hard thing to do, then I guess I'll restrict my search to MA, but can't tell what's required. Do you know?

Thanks, Tom

Tom
My car was already registered in MA so there was no problem for me. As long as its registered as a 65 Ford, there should be no problem. Make sure you have a Bill of Sale ready when you go to registry. Mine is listed as a 65 Ford Cobra, and there is no value for that model in the MA registry books for calculating the tax. Therefore, they used the sell price. It will also help to get the Manufacturers Certificate of Origin, just in case.

If you have any problems with insurance, here is an article I wrote to help people in MA.

Send me a PM with your tel # if you want to discuss.

I know of a nice Contemporary in MA for sale? Already has been registered, out by Springfield. It is black with an undercar exhaust and pin drive with GoodYear Billboards.

Warren---thanks for the info. It sounds like I should be in pretty good shape then. I'll take a look at the insurance info---sounds like a path to pursue. I can meet those conditions

Jeff--the Contemporary with undercar exhaust sounds great. Can you tell me more...I'm in the hunt and have several cars I've been looking at so let me know as soon as you can. Underdcar---is that the 289 style cobra? What motor? Price? and naturally, how to contact. Thanks very much...sounds interesting. Tom

Default Another Danbury Cobra

Rob,

I'm in Danbury also, across from the High School. I drive a viper blue Midstates cobra that I completed about four years ago. One of the benefits of living in Danbury, is that we are less than an hour from Lime Rock Park. You'll learn alot about your car, and yourself, when you get it on the track. Send me an email when you get the chance.

Steve,
You also have a great engine builder in Danbury. Drop in and say hi to Joe Lupine at Danbury Competition Engines. He knows his way around any and all Ford engines. They have done engines for a lot of priceless vintage GT-40's, GT 350/500's and original Shelby Cobra's. He built my 427 FE two years ago and it hasn't missed a beat. Lot's of talent next door at the chassis dyno that shares space with DCE.

Tday, just so you know what to expect, might want to check with the MA DMV Etc for any differences regarding inspection/registration/emissions for a MA registered replica/kit car vs out-of-state. Along with any influences the make/model on the Bill Of Sale will have on the process.

In CT, it would make a difference having the CT VIN , which is assigned by the DMV after passing the inspection.
