Default Folsom Lake - not much left

Oct 30th, 2015

If you have not been out there in a while, not much left. KQED was onsite with some drones to give a perspective from different sides of the lake today.

That is low. My Father was a supervisor on the dam when it was built and I went to Folsom school for a time. I was back down there about 1984 working on an ESS computer and went to see the lake then.

California is in deep trouble if it doesn't get some good rainfall this winter. Folsom isn't the only lake looking like that. Several others in Northern Ca are almost as bad. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Thanks for posting, Duane. Lets just hope we get pound with rain. When the dam was completed they said it would take three years to fill it..... it was full after the first winter. We need a winter like that!

Nah, that is Folsom Prison. I was there also several times as a visitor. I got to know a few of the guards and they would take me places that was off limits to the public. Saw the old execution room where they used to hang prisoners and some other interesting places.

They ought to go back to that.

Almanor still has water but it's as low as I've ever seen it. If it stays this low it should freeze over this winter. bob

Bob,

I used to have to go to Quincy once in a while to work on the computer and I have seen Almanor low but I doubt if it was anything like it is now. Whiskeytown Lake here is low also but Shasta is what is going to hurt us if we don't start getting rain and lots of it.

I go over the dam road every few days - the lake is very sad looking..........Unfortunately they are keeping it low so they can finish the work there for the new spillway, I hope they complete it soon so they can start to store more water.

The spillway must be at the bottom of the dam

I walk my dogs out there three times a week, and the water is nowhere near where it needs to be to even get out of the lake and pumps are well below the dam and the new spillway still under construction. It's actually drawn down even further since it started raining.

If you thought it was low low last month, go check it out now, one guy told me you can actually walk across the lake in many section now. Bad photo... but you get the idea.

Its even more sad to sit here & watch as we have had a really wet summer. Hopefully winter brings CA some rain & a good snow pack.

Darn, it wasn't that low while they were building the dam. That is nothing but a large mud puddle.

Got some sporadic rain showers this week. A little snow in the mountains too.

We have a small "seasonal" stream in our backyard. Even last year, there was always at least some water in it, though it might not be flowing. It's been bone dry all summer. I've lost about twenty trees because of it. A real bummer.

Pretty soon, they'll have to rename it "Folsom Ditch."
