Default Winter Safety Check

Guys,
I have been under my Cobra the last two weeks checking nuts and bolts and fixing a few things before I turn the Cobra over to the new owner. I have always check the car once a year for broken bolts and just got under it and look at things. After having the Cobra on the road for several years i was shifting into third gear about 80mph and i broke a rear upper control arm as the Cobra start to go off the road to the right, I turn the steering wheel all the way to left and just manage to stay on the road. i then went home change my shorts. I had a friend who was drag racing his Cobra back about ten years ago and just after he when thru the trap he broke a right front suspenion part at 140mph and went into the guardrail and then did sven end over ends and walk away with out being hurt from that point on he always look his {new} Cobra over each year and sometimes more then once. I have also notice that most of us dont have any padding on are roll bars and we should. These Cobras are run hard so think about it and have great summer in 2010.

I agree Andy.

Sometime over the Winter I will put it up on blocks, remove the tires and wheels and give it a good inspection. It also gives me an opportunity to clean up the underside of the car a little.

I also go over the car once a year and put a wrench/ socket on key parts. These cars are like Harley Davidson's and tend to shake themselves loose.

John,Jake,
Your right there is a whole lot of shaking going on and cleaning the underside is great along with putting a wrench on key parts., anyone else have some ideas.? I talk to Jim #1 today. I told him the site seems dead without Jim and Steve rapping back a fourth and correcting my spelling errors,ha ha. Jim#1, new #1 was going over his new Vet out of Calif and found a spider with a red bottom under the drivers seat, well it didn"t bite his ass,ha ha

Mine gets a full inspection after each race weekend, so far nothing has ever been loose (except for header bolts) or broken, mainly its cleaning up everything and greasing all fittings and changing oil and filter. It does nit get driven until inspection is done,

How good are the FF5 spe. racers, faster then the real cars?., I would think so. I see a jet in the back ground, rode in some fast birds from 1965 to 1974 USNR Air wing.

I always went over my whole car after driving it fast or on the track and checked all bolts, torque settings. I looked for any broken or frayed stuff, and for any leaks. It never took that long and was well worth the feeling of knowing that if anything broke it wasn't because I hadn't checked it.

I also tend to go through mine after each summer/fall season. I have found a few things that needed to be tightened or such, but nothing to serious. I usually have a minor project to two that requires me to go through it anyways. Although I may not be back to Washington this coming summer, I already need to fix two leaks (tranny and differential) that have made a complete mess of the underside.

I go over my car every oil change, checking every bolt, and nut, and some good detailing as well.
