Default 2011 Run to the Sun (4th annual!)

Merry Christmas to you all,

I am waiting at the airport in Bethel, AK for my flight back to Anchorage, when I started thinking about the Run to the Sun. So I thought it would be a good idea to see who is interested in particiapting in the 4th annual Run to the Sun. If you have never attended, the run goes over Hwy 20 to Winthrop and we stay for two(2) nights at the Sun Mountain Lodge and terrorize the natives. If possible we try to meet up so we can go over Hwy 20 as a group and on to SML so we can create an appropriate disturbance. Let me know if you would like to attend, so I can get an idea of the number rooms we should ask SML to block out for our group.

To answer the un-asked question, there are no Cobras in Bethel, AK.

Bye for Now!
Dale

PS- Last year Gloria and I made the trip back with a broken rear differential mount. Let me tell you that was no fun!

Karen and I will be a tentative based on when. Currently we will be on vacation July 29th through August 21. Planning on taking the Cobra down to Lake Tahoe again then heading to San Diego.

Default Run to the Sun- Date options

Your trip sounds cool may be we should all follow you.

I am considering dates as late early September and as early as June.

Anyone else have any feed back??

Dale

PS - I am no longer in Bethel, AK. I am scheduled to fly out of anchorage this evening.

We had a great time last year. Only issue was that when we headed over to Carmel, that if we were within 10 miles of the coast, it was in the low 50's and cloudy/foggy. We finally got tired of that when we hit Brookings, and headed inland to nice warm 80's and 90's.

We had a great time last summer. I would suggest going earlier in the summer. That way if someone can't make it with the group, they can go alone later in the summer. There might be fewer deer earlier in the summer. One deer almost ran us over. We had an absolute blast. We need to hook up again before June! Thanks for setting this up!

Ward, glad to here from you we should settle on a date in about a month.

Everyone, I spoke to Jeff White Last week. He says he is up for another RTTS.

Also, Sun mountain Lodge sent me an e-mail saying they want us to come back in 2011.

More to follow.

Sun Mountain wants us back, but I don't think Ranger Rick ever wants to see us again. I just hope they don't give him any bullets for his gun! Of course, I'm not sure he saw anyone but me. And don't you know he was even more pissed when I didn't have a front plate? LOL!

Sounds like I missed out on the fun last year. We didn't have any fun stories like this the first two years.

Default RTTS 2011 Date and Rally Idea

Hello Everybody!

We have been doing a little research on the weather in mid-June. Historically, it looks like a very slight chance of rain occuring during that time frame west of the Cascades. Historically, the Winthrop area has temperatures in the 75 to 80 degree range during that time frame. So based on my bit of weather research I am suggesting June 17, 18 and 19 for the 2011 Run to The Sun.

As a part of "the Run" is anyone interested in doing a best time rally starting at, for example, Jake's Diner in Snohomish, WA. The route could be Hwy 2 to 97 north on to SML. There will be one requirement for sucessful completion, the participants will need to get a printed cash register receipt or a business card from each check point community that has the towns name on it. Substitute evidence of stopping in the check point community would be a picture of either the driver or co-driver with an employee of a business located in the town in question with evidence in the picture confirming successful contact with the check point community in question. Any speeding ticket will result in disqualification. Failure to get appropriate evidence of reaching any designated town on the route will result in a 60 minute time penalty. There will most likely be 8 to 10 check point along the route you will need to contact. Final starting point, route and check points are up for discussion.

So we need feedback from you all on the proposed date for "The Run" and the proposed Rally idea.

Happy New Year!
Dale McBain
SPF #469

PS- I don't know what color the shirt will be this year.
As we did last year we will be honoring Steve B. and other stroke victims.

Dale, Count me in for the ride and the shirts! Never done a rally so I guess it is time to try one. I'll come back on Hwy 20 on Sunday. That is Father's Day weekend, so we should be able to do what we want, right? Thanks for setting this up again!

We are a maybe at this point. Still under discussions with the wife on summer vacations. The rally sounds like great fun!

Heather & I have enjoyed the last couple years - and are up for another trip. The closer the dates get to July - the better the weather. June weather is nice about 5pm, mornings are still pretty cool.

It does sound like fun! After being out of state last summer (all of 2010), I am really looking forward to this coming driving season!

Since we are not going on vacation until August it looks like Karen and I can make it this year.

Only one issue with the rally. It's biased toward small block cars. Even if I fuel up prior to Jake's, I still cannot make it on one tank.

Oh well, guess I just have to drive faster and hope for no tickets.

Wow! Welcome to the forum Stephen. I look forward meeting you. Please start a new thread and introduce yourself and how you came to get into this wacky hobby. Also how long have you owned your SPF?

Jake

Gents: Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to meeting all of you and swapping yarns about how we all got bitten by the Serpent madness. (I've been dreaming of owning one since my sophmore year in undergraduate school.) Mine was delivered in mid Sept. and has acquired 1300 miles since then. This spring I plan on taking performance driving instruction at ProFormance Racing School in Kent with the intent of qualifying for lapping privileges and club events. For now I must wait...patiently! (I think I'll go tinker with beast.)

Now you need to tell us more about the car, and post some pictures.

And welcome aboard.
