2015 Whistler Run to the Mountain! (July10-12)
NW Club Cobra,
As promised at the Seaside trip this past summer I have organized a trip to beautiful British Columbia. It has been many years since the club has travelled over the border and we are due once again. So get your passports early and make you reservations now. I have secured great room rates at the Pan Pacific Resort. This is a top shelf place that is very nice at the base of the mountain. They have blocked 15 rooms for 30 days and after that it will be space available. So if you would like to have room options book ASAP, this will also make sure you get the group rate. We will leave from the I-5/ 512 McDonald's (Tacoma) on July 10th around 0830Hrs and venture north and pick up any of our friends from the north along the way. We will return on Sunday morning and have a nice drive back to the states! As we get closer I will fine tune leaving time. If you have never been to the Whistler Village it is amazing with great views of the mountains. The village offers lots of cuisine and bars within walking distance of the resort. See below for rates. The rates are in Canadian so you will get them cheaper depending on the exchange rate. Parking will be $25 a day in the under ground garage. Please post if you are going to attend. I know several of the old time Cobra Club members will be attending. Let's make this the biggest club event yet! I was just in Whistler in September. On the way from the airport I thought that this would make for a beautiful drive.
I hope you get a big group and please post pics along the way. |
Jake:
Judy and I will be attending this run and I am in the process of getting my reservations at the hotel. We both look forward to seeing the "group" again, especially under such pleasant circumstances. Regards, Stephen |
OK, as the route basically goes by my front door (Lions Bay, just past West Vancouver on the way to Whistler), I'm gonna have to see if I can make this happen!!!!
As a thought for those who are more adventurous, the loop trip from Vancouver to Whistler, then continuing up Hwy 99 through Pemberton then to Lillooet is SPECTACULAR, makes the Vancouver/Whistler section look like... i dunno, Kansas? :) Then, you take Hwy 12 to Litton where it connects up with Hwy 1 which winds down the Fraser River Canyon back to the Vancouver area, where you could take the Sumas border crossing and miss all the Vancouver traffic. Just a thought, rather than just heading back to Washington the same way you went up... Here's a BC Government website with the details on this route: http://www.hellobc.com/driving-route...cle-route.aspx |
Jake,
Gay and I are in. We’ll make our reservations tomorrow. I’ll also post this in the Northwest forums at www.ffcars.com and www.thefactoryfiveforums.com. I’ll also contact the Oregon crew to post on their www.cascadecobras.com. This cruise will be a lot of fun. We’re looking forward to getting together with all our Northwest and Canadian Cobra driver friends this summer. Bruce p.s. Sounds good Mark! I like the return route. Would you be interested in leading a couple hour drive on Sat. the 11th? it would be fun to check out a few of the 2 lane roads around Whistler.

Couple of options for a 2 to 3 hr +/- return trip would be Pemberton Valley and Joffre Glacier / Duffey Lake run, if anyone wants to check those out just google them and check out the images. Great 2 lane roads, low traffic. Pemberton Valley: Pemberton Valley ‹ ‹ Mark Richards GalleryMark Richards Gallery the road runs right down the valley, middle of farmland. Joffre Glacier, Duffey Lake: Joffre Lakes Provincial Park - BC Parks - Province of British Columbia The highway runs RIGHT by the trail to the glacier. Much more of a drivers road than Pemberton Valley, a bit longer as well. 2 lane highway, low traffic. |
Jake
Brenda and I will be going. I will make the reservation once I get to Arizona. Now lets get some more of the old timers together. If I can drive my car from Montana none of the Locals have any excuses. Fred |
We're In!
Reservations made!
Kev and Di |
Reservations are made.
I'm looking forward to entertaining the Border patrol. |
Looking forward to this!
Thanks Jake,
We've made our reservations - although we won't have to cross the border to get there. Can't wait! Andrew & Laurel |
Looks like we will have a good size group going so far. Bruce, thanks for the note on the Ore. and Canadian additions from the FFR site. Mark, thanks for the drive ideas. Hopefully you will be able to make the trip.

Reservations made. Looking forward to the trip.
Steve and Penny |
Just made my reservations! Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Jake |
...been waiting for this a long time! Will plan on joining the group. One option driving north would be to pick up Chuckanutt Dr, just north of Mt Vernon. Nice twisty road that parallels the Bay. The loop up through Pemberton on the way back sounds fantastic....

Finally made my reservation, I am also looking at a different route coming home, like adding 3 days to the trip. If any one is intrested chime in.
Fred |
Hi Fred,
Glad your making it. If I've got to go out and get my passport to cross a boarder 100miles to the north, and bring two wallets to eat, I'm chiming in on your idea of an extension to make the time more memorable and worthy of the efforts. Count Di and I in. Kevin |
Fred,
Sounds great. You can count Penny and myself for the extra days. Looking forward to see what you come up with. Steve |
I found a 20' trailer I can rent and have plans to come up for 3 weeks and make the Whistler run with you guys. I wanted to drive the coast up but logistics once we arrive in Bellingham don't look good without a covered place to park and another vehicle to drive around. Even a rental car would be pretty expensive....
