Oh No
Ouch! Fred... does it hurt?
If not, reschedule your appointment for June 12th. Cuz that problem can't be corrected without weeks - months of recovery time. Please keep us posted, and my thoughts are with you.. :( Zderf |
OUCH!
Jeeeeez what a bunch of broken down old f**ts we are getting to be! I won't go into my aches and pains, but Fred, Zderf is right, if your Doc wants to cut and you aren't in unbearable pain, hold off until after the run. We all know you are going to be the pace car so you are greatly needed.:)
Bish:cool: Incidently, I recently lowered my tire pressure to 24 lbs on all four corners and the car rides much better. Very smooth and comfortable |
Thanks for all the info on the tire PSI but my Superformance manual calls for 18PSI for normal driving and 24 on the track. This week they are going to give me a shot of cortisone, if that doesn't do the trick then I go under the knife. All I can say is I will do every thing possible to go on the trip so don't count me out yet. The wife has even said that we could follow along in her Tahoe but it just would'nt be the same.
18 PSI for normal driving I wonder if I fit in that bracket????? |
Fred,
18psi will give your tires that extra bite when you need to move fast. An example might be train crossings...real or imagined. :JEKYLHYDE Rich |
Yeah, I put a RR Crossing sign up here at my place so Fred won't have to get spooked by an errant "train".

Just got back from the Doc and had the MRI reading. This Thursday I will be getting a couple shots of Cortisone. My question to all those that have been down this road is What can I expect, I know everyone is different but I would like to have some ideas from those that have been there. Still got a couple weeks before the trip and I still need to get some miles on the old bucket of bolts . Alot of work was done over the winter so I want to make sure I got every thing back in place. I don't know what hurts more the back or having this nice weather and not being able to drive the toy.

Tried a Chiropractor?
Fred,
Have you tried a Chiropractor? I really don’t use them on a constant basis but I did once for about a year after a Tee-Bone accident my entire family and I were involved in five years ago. They really helped my wife and I to a speedy recovery (without knives), and off the pain pills immediately. Wishing you a speedy recovery, and I hope you can avoid the knife. :) MTC (my 2-cents) Kevin |
Fred,
What did the MRI show? Is the disc ruptured? Or is it a muscle problem? Bish |
Kevin
I have no problem with going to see the bone popper, in fact my wife see's them regularly. Right now I have to get some relief from the pain and thats why they are going with the cortisone shots. Before I go under the knife I will see everyone possible. Bish The MRI shows two bulging disks, if it was a muscle problem Zderf would know I was faking it as he knows the workers at Boeing don't do any thing to pull a muscle. Just spent 45 minutes on the phone with Kemper (L&I people). They must think every one that puts in a claim is faking it When they got me to the Hospital my B/P was 180 over 135 how do you fake that. Right now I'm taking enough drugs to stock a drug store. Guys I am going to do every thing possible to make that trip, Sat going to look at some seat inserts just in case. I got a new digital movie camera and have the mount located on the rollbar so I hope to get some great movies. |
Fred, Hang in there Amigo. The cortizone should help reduce the swelling. Once that happens, the pain will be less. Been there. Managed to avoid the knife so far and in fact am pretty OK now. Just have to watch what I do. I wore a brace for a long time and like Perry, it really did the job.
Hey I like the idea of the roll bar mounted camera. We also have a digital video camera which we are taking along. Never thought of mounting it on the roll bar though. Hmmmmmm Bish:MECOOL: |
Fred... you crack me up. Don't anyone ever suggest that the Fred name does not represent the pinnacle of resourcefulness, sensitivity, and humor.
Any doubts that this man wants to take the trip?? **) Zderf  |
Hi Fred,
I spent 4 long months in a back brace shot up with drugs, did no good at all. Suffered for another5 months going back and forth to all the experts. They know nothing, basically can't help you. I went to a friend's chiropractor out of desperation as L3 was sitting crooked on L2 [1/2 broken off]My back was swollen 1" out in a 5" diameter circle for the whole time.Within 2 weeks of seeing Roy, all the swelling was gone and I could actually sit in a chair again. What needs to happen is for your back to be properly aligned again to take the pressure off the disk.A heating pad will give you some temporary relief while you are recovering also.Hope you find a doc that can help you, otherwise come up here and see Roy,he'll help you. Perry.:) |
What if it rains..?
The age old question around the N.W. is; "What Happens if it rains"?
Here's the deal: Unless a horrific front moves in that blankets the whole N.W.(Western Washington and Eastern Washington and Idaho) which is extemely unlikely we are "good to go". All you need to do is get to Issaquah. You guys that have rag tops and hard tops can gloat at those of us without, but we will go anyway. We have 3 chase vehicles, all are 6 passenger or better, so wives, SO's and the weak at heart can load into those for the trip across the pass. Once past Snoqualmie pass the weather will moderate and we can re-arrange the seats. Drivers in open cars, like me, will just have to tough it out. I've done it before, will bring rain gear, "Rain X" and know that it will dry out on the East side. Too many times around here, the weather looks bad and then changes. A case in point was last year's Skagit Cruise. The day started with a thunderstorm here in Mt Vernon and solid overcast and rain in Seattle/Tacoma. By 10:00 A.M it was a perfect day (except for Slad Daddy whose EFI died) and we had a great drive. So we will keep an eye on the weather satellite pictures, but unless a monsoon sweeps in........we go. Bish:MECOOL: |
RICH the cameraman
Rich has the mount, camera, and expereince to vidoe the whole deal.....
Rich? Zderf  |
Just got back from the Doc and I must say I feel great so don't count the old guy out yet. The real test will be tomorrow as I plan on taking a shot ride to my physical therapist.I'm sure he will s**t the big one . I figure if I don't hurt after the ride I will be in good shape for the Idaho run.
Zderf are you saying I don't have the brain cells to do any taping :3DSMILE: |
Arrgghh!!
Fred...
I just figured that you'd be too damn busy adjusting your back brace to think about taping. All we would see is the back of yer neck and hands!!! Worse... if your in the lead (as has been customary.. who the hell ya gunna tape?) I just hope you can make it, tape, brace, or not.....%/ Zderf  |
Well, since he's going to be in the lead, he could just turn the camera backwards?
Rich |
Duh!
See Rich....
dats why you be duh foe-tog-gra-fir! Zderf :3DSMILE: |
An Addition.
Just a little jewel for the first day of the run. Look at your WA road map and find exit 109 on I-90 in Ellensberg. It is called Canyon Rd. or SR 821 It is a beautiful two lane that follows the the Yakima river to Yakima (about 25 miles). We will take this route and pick up I-87 in Yakima. I forgot about this road until Fred reminded me of it. It is a very pretty drive.
Enjoy, Bish:MECOOL: |
