Hi Guys,,
I was hasty in my post ,I do think some of the very early motors had regular freeze plugs,as well as a few non cross bolt motors, this does have cross bolts, but no screw in plugs,I was wary it wasnt a 427 as well, all I had to use was a tape measure, but the bore is roughly 4.25,,so I would think it has to be,this is a local motor that I have heard stories about for years, the guy who had it maybe 15 yrs ago was an old arca racer,
As you said Karl ,I for sure dont need the pistons or heads most likely, the sleeve dosent bother me so much since it looks liek it was a long time ago,I couldnt see any welds or breaks anywhere, the crank is a toss up,and for the cost of building up and grinding I can but a new scat crank ,unless maybe a cleanup grind would do it.the rods are studded steel rods, but not able to see the numbers.
My plan is to gather more info on what the block may be,and if it would have any collector value among restorers,{galaxie, etc},take my mic and more lighting to ck it out and make the guy a better educated offer..
I really appreciate any help I can get on this,I need to move fairly fast since the word is out on the motor now,I am not sure my 500 offer wasnt a fair one though,,,thanks,Tk
