Default Status Report: CSX 1999

Hi Guys!

Bet you thought you were rid of me... fat chance!

For those of you who might be interested here's a status report on CSX 1999 (aka "Roswell")...

The Art Morrison frame is on hand... looks brutish... very stout. Car should be flex-free. Brake set-up looks good... Wilwood, 12", cross drilled rotors all around, 4 piston calipers. The steering rack is from Flaming Ranch... from what I understand a good unit that a lot of high end rods use. I ended up getting new front fender panels from Moss Motors rather than repairing the ones on the car (it came with rather botched cut outs just behind the front wheel wells. I decided I wanted to go with the more stock look). The two rows of hood louvers I had punched should allow sufficient engine bay ventilation.

The Minilite wheels were a good call... they have an anthracite finish... a very "vintage 60s racing" look.

I've been looking for a LeMans style external gas cap that will fit the car. All the Cobra types are too big -- 5-6" diameters. Finally found one on the internet from England, the same one fitted to original racing 100S Healeys. It arrived this week--beautifully made and 4" across... perfect!

Now for the bad news... I don't think the car will be ready by the start of Summer. I think I'll be lucky if it's finished by this time next year. Shades of the "Crosley" the Cobra (JCF said they'd have it done in 9 months, it took them two years). It's going to be hard going through another driving season without a car. I wanted to put together a road rally to the Wallowa Lake region (NE Oregon). I've been told it's an incredible place with great drives and not too far from either here or the Seattle area. I don't think I can do the Miata thing amid 'real' sports cars again.

Miss you Bozos. Hope we can stay in touch.

Waldo

Neal...

Speaking of interesting projects... is the GT40 finished and on the road?

Windshield goes in Friday. I've done a few laps around the neighborhood to everyones delight. Two and a half years later I'm calling it done. Licensing is next. Hopefully some seat time this winter...

Thumbs up Central Oregon

Walt,

Yes I do get over the mountain once in a while. My family usually takes a few days after the first of year, stay at SR and ski Bachelor. I love that mountain for skiing. Will give you an email when I know that date.

Is your car being worked on in the Bend area?

Mike

Mike... car is up in Gig Harbor. A friend/super mechanic is doing the work.

Be sure and get in touch when you're down this way. We'll do some skiing and tour Bend's growing brew pub scene...seems like there's a new one opening every week.
