That's the problem then -- your timing light is not compatible with the box.

David,
An interesting thought but I have a MSD box on my F150 and have never experience a change in the timing due to the multi-strike capabilities of the box. The light should fire on the first inpulse it senses from the pick up coil and ignore all other impulses and I'm not sure it could because we are talking miliseconds between current flow.
I will be taking my trusty 30 year old Sun timing light over to Jim's this week to see if we can figure out what the malfunction is.
Jim no doubt will be the Weber expert after all of this.

Ray

From MSD Tech Support:

Quote:
When it appears that the timing is “jumping all over the place” is the engine responding accordingly? If not, it’s possible the timing light was picking up interference from the CD ignition.

Make sure you are NOT using a dial-back or digital timing light. These tend to work TOO well and will pick up the multi-spark showing an incorrect or scattered reading. We recommend using a simple “plane Jane” inductive pick-up timing light.

Ray;

It should just fire once, but not all timing lights do......My old Sears worked perfectly, my brand new "digital/MSD compatible" timing light doesn't!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same goes with tachs...I bought an el-cheapo to go on my engine run-in stand, O'Reilly's said it would work perfectly with a multi-spark ignition,he was WRONG.....Acted just like the timing light.......

This is what I use -- works great, even when you attach it upside down.

I got it...... After reading all your posts, I went back to the Cobra Pit popped open the hood and just looked at what was happening. I again removed the distributor and turned it again and again both ways and found the spot that worked. At 700 RPM it is set to 13at 2,700 to 3,000 it holds steady at 36. Again thank you all. Clint said a man has to know his limitations and Engines are or where out of my comfort zone big time! I'm all most home on this project. Just fine tuning left and detail is my comfort zone.

QUOTE from Weber Company " One of the most dramatic Weber installations available on any car is a set of four IDF-series Webers on an American V8".
