Ohio Cobra Club-Now legal

All Ohio Cobra Owners!
The OCC is now a legal entity. We have a Federal Tax ID, By-laws, and incorporation papers are in the works. The name "The Ohio Cobra Club" will be registered in Ohio with exclusive rights to the name. We're growing up!! More to follow.

Not to hijack this thread, but now that your legal, I think you need some shirts (hint, hint) :D . (ok, just a little self promotion on my part) :D :D :D .
Congratulations on your incorporation.

Darn, and I read this thinking it was the Oklahoma Cobra Club ! Good luck with the new club and I hope that everything goes smooth for you.

Ron :)

OCC,
Just thought you might like to know. I mentioned this at our very first meeting at our house; the name Ohio Cobra Club or OCC was registered at least 15 years ago by a guy out of Grove City. All I remeber is he is prison guard at Orient. Maybe he has let the name drop, I don't know.

DV...Still have one of his hats!

f4steri 03-19-2005 01:09 PM

Ed:
Thanks for the info! According to the Legal Guide for Non-Profits, published by the Ohio Bar Association, the name has to be renewed every five years. I doubt if it was seeing it was registered so long ago.
P.S. Hope every thing turns out well with Wendy.

What? How does this impact the club? What does this mean?
enlighten me.

Gary

Gary,
it means nothing more than the worst case scenario the OCC has to pick another name. However, I'm sure some one checked with the State of Ohio to make sure it wasn't already in use.

In very lay terms If 'they' missed it, and 'they' have missed some over the years then you need to check to see if the original entity is valid or non valid. Assuming either way, the originator can be approached and see if he wants to give up the name. If not, pick a new name. I know "he" had the name prior to December 1998. I do not know if he ever filed for it.

Cobra Club of Ohio

FRANK,

Thanks for staying on top of this. I remember meeting at Eds' years ago -- hopefully, this will encourage others to get on board with the club. I think we had more then 20 people, at Ed's house, interested at first -- then people just seemed to lose interest.
Hopefully, we can get some shirts, hats etc. Steve Boardman did this originally but I think he is out of business --
Ed, which hat do you have -- the "original" or one from Steve?

Mike

Double Venom 03-20-2005 04:18 PM

Mike,I never got anything from Steve, not that we didn't try. The hat I was talking about is one the guy gave me in the early 90's. Typical baseball type cap, outline of a blue Cobra with OCC on it. Again, I haven't talked to this guy in years. I am sssuming he is still working at Orient. If necessary I can probably dig him up.

Bill S., Steve Boardman:
Talk to me about "official" OCC shirts and hats. You can Email me!
Steve: are you still doing shirts and hats?

Double Venom 03-20-2005 08:04 PM

Frank,
You still don't get it. I'm NOT trying to give you any headaches, quite the contrar. All I'm trying to do is give you some information that you may not have already. Then again, maybe not. All I can tell you is this unknowned named guy from Orient was pretty adament at the time that I or 'we' did not use his club name.

"Offical vs. Original"? Wonder how that would hold up in a civil lawsuit? Kind of like 'rumors' vs. the 'truth' maybe?

Maybe the unknown guy never legally filed the name. Maybe he let the time lapse. However copyright, slander, libel can carry some pretty serious penalty's.

Just thought you might like to know...about the name that is.
DV

A little worn after after 13 years. The Spots are from a power steering hose letting loose. Don't want that to happen again!

Mike Braatz 03-21-2005 11:38 AM

FRANK, ED

LETS HOPE THE GUY LET IT DROP -- I WOULD THINK THAT IF HE ISN'T ACTIVE IN ANY CLUB HE MAY HAVE LET IT GO -- I'M SURE WE WILL FIND OUT.

I did a search and didn't find anything with the words "Ohio" and "Cobra" in the name.

CSCHWER 03-21-2005 12:43 PM

Unless I slept thru Legal Names 101, "OHIO COBRA CLUB", "THE OHIO CLUB", "COBRA CLUB OF OHIO" are not the same name. Which one are we talking about.

Why register the name? What am I missing here? Does it make any difference? It's still a bunch of guys (a few gals too) with a common connection.

Randy

Mike Braatz 03-21-2005 01:22 PM

Randy -- I'll turn that one over to our club president, Rick Dorman.

Chet, we are talking "Ohio Cobra Club" or OCC.

O.K. Guys and Gals!
Hopefully this 'll put this thread to bed!! I did a name search on the Secretary of States web site. There is no Ohio Cobra Club name registered!! End of story!! It will be "The Ohio Cobra Club".
Frank SPF # 725
P.S. to Ed. The name becomes "official" upon registration with exclusive right to the name by the Club. I appreciate the information, tho.
