Yes I do need a different drill bit I am tired of looking a crumpled mats let alone it could be dangerous while driving.

Just keep in mind if you are drilling stainless (no matter what bit you are using), lower RPM's work much better.

I have seen the photos of 3004 and examined them many times in the past. That car has been restored many times. The last set of photos that you are examining shows the lift the dots. That car was sold at Fantasy Junction. It is a nice restoration of a restoration of a restoration. Many subtle inaccurate details. In the photos you have listed indicate the wrong carpet material , the wrong binding material and style, the wrong pattern, and the wrong heal pad material, the studs. Not a good example. Like I said I have the original carpets from my car. I will be able to examine them in about three weeks when I travel to the parts storage.. I remember four and four, but that is from memory. Two other old timers have indicated they remember 4 and four. All three of us might be wrong. The final determination will be in three weeks when I unpack the boxes with the original carpets, which have been stored for almost fourty years. Keep tuned

Can the lift-a-dot section that attaches to the floormat be installed on the mats by cutting the pattern with an exacto knife?
The tool is 55 pounds Brittish...quite expensive if all one intends to use it for is one set of floor mats :eek: ! Cheers! Dugly :cool: |

Yes you can make an exacto do the job. I have used crayon on it and the hasp to transfer the cuts it needs. Use a wad or gasket punch for the hole in the centre.

What if you made a small template out of 3 mm mdf, then sharpen a flat blade screwdriver and punch the 4 slots trhough the template, As it's a bit hard to mark carpet.

For what it's worth, those looking to add Lift The Dots to carpet will quickly learn that the traditional/standard size Lift The Dot has tangs that are only .200" long. Great for canvas but not quite long enough on carpet.
Most vendors do NOT supply the longer tang .275" Lift The Dot top portion. Trust me, I called quite a few and finding someone that will sell you small quantities is not easy. Maybe you will get lucky from a local boat canvas supplier. Or you can contact this guy. Jim Watt, owner of Northwest Tarp & Canvas in Bellingham, WA. He will sell you small lots (5-10 qty) and for a very fair price. www.nwtarp.com His contact number is 360-296-2321. He has many ads on eBay but may not have these exact ones listed there at the moment. But he does carry them and he's simply a great guy running an honest business. Check him out...I have nothing to gain personally but just want to share a great resource for a difficult little item to source quickly (and correctly, as there are knock-off versions out there). |
