One old Ford Prefect 100E heater, some MIG wire and a few spotwelds later. Heater was £5 on ebay... |

289 Cobra heater
Hello, We just had the heater for CSX2498 painted and it looks great. Let me know if you need the color code for the original color of pale gray.

Hello Karl,
Thanks for the compliments - it's not perfect copy-wise, but very close. I'd very much like to know the colour code if you have it! I was planning on a mid-grey, similar to the one in the photo pre-stripping. Jaguar Birch Grey looked close, but the code would be a great help.

The core is away being modified to place the pipes vertically, as they started out pointing backwards into the bulkhead, and getting pressure tested.
I have the motor, which is fine, and the original fan which is a six-bladed bakelite affair.
You're not reproducing any of this, are you Nick?
It would be just my luck to discover I'm reinventing the wheel again...

Color code for heater box
Hello, I will call the painter and ask for the correct code. They used a color match from the original paint on the box and it looks good.

Good work - looks great! I don't suppose you would be able to take a few (/ lots) of reference measurements while its in this state would you?(!) I'm about to embark on attempting to make one of these from scratch myself....

I would very strongly recommend you buy a Ford Prefect (100E) heater unit to use as a core. They crop up on ebay and are not expensive - mine cost me £5.00. Making the casing shape from scratch would be very difficult as they are a pressing, with the tapered section and the ribs part of that pressing. Also you will never replicate the Delaney-Gallay pressing which is very complicated.
However if you tell me which measurements you would like I can certainly take some while it's out of the car - but as soon as I get the modified matrix back from the radiator shop, it's going back in!

Hi Roger,
That does make sense; I'll keep my eyes open for one. Any measurements of aperture sizing and spacing would be very useful reference.
