Default Dual fan motors in front of radiator

Hi all. I have a question about the dual electric fan motors that were used in front of the radiator on the 427 Cobras.

Not about the origin of the motor (Falcon heater motor or Smith's motor), but feel free to chime in on that history.

My question is: Was there a label on the motors and does anyone have a pic/image of the label and a source for the label if available.

Thanks

Cheers
Greg

Total guess on my part Greg but if the Cobra 427 used Falcon heater motors for the fans, I'd say there wasn't a paper tag on it. I have heard the motors were blower motors but I've never confirmed that.
Leaf spring cars were totally different with most using a Lucas square motor and fan similar to the Jaguar cooling fan. I have the leaf spring setup.

Thanks Larry. I have seen in Falcon and Mustang parts catalogues with pics of the heater blower motors with tags/stickers on them.

I guess I'll contact them to see if tags are available.

No idea if the tags were on the motors as delivered on cars from Shelby.

Cheers

Oh could be then. I would think a paper tag would have been discarded during install as it could come loose and end up on the radiator or caught in the fan. I wondered if it had a stamping like the starter or alternator.

Curious why you think 427 Cobras came with two cooling fans?

Early cars did not have dual fans just a single mounted in the center of the radiator
not sure when they added second fan but believe it might have been when the dual tail lights came along

I'm sure not an expert on Cobra 427's but I know CSX3030 came with "fans ahead of the radiator" when new. There's also single fans in the comp/SC series of the Cobra 427 as well. What got what though, I haven't studied.

I'm certainly not ANY sort of expert, and after seeing countless cars at Shelby events, I can only say that confusion reigns.

Thinking back, I never thought to ask the car owners if they knew if their cars came with no, one or two fans originally.

I've seen many combinations.

I'll be in Vegas next week and I'll wander over to the Shelby facility to see if anyone has any historical perspective.

Cheers
Greg

The change to dual tail lights was at the beginning of the 32xx series, but no specific change to dual fans.
The vast majority of all 427 Cobras received single fans. Twin fans were only fitted where circumstances deemed necessary.

Other than the very early 30xx cars the fans were installed by AC Cars. Most if not all comp cars did not run any fans.
Having dual fans would have involved a change and an extra charge at Shelby American.
The mounting bar would have to change and not sure if two stock diameter fans would fit side by side.

Unless the change is noted on the invoice, I would be skeptical of any claims that a car came with twin fans.

A-Snake is right on that if any big block Cobra came with dual fans it was an anomaly that a buyer requested special (can't think of one off hand) or possibly the SuperSnake may have come that way because of the extreme cooling demands of the supercharged engine.

At least on the earlier street cars the fan system was installed at SA using a Ford blower motor, added fan bracket, US sourced temp sender added to expansion tank, US sourced fan blade, Ford relay and wiring scabbed on alongside the AC harness. Later cars may have had some of that incorporated by AC, but it would have involved having US sourced components shipped over to the UK, which I suspect may have been cost prohibitive.

Larry, That paragraph is hard to read but
I think it reads that from that point S/C's received
fans, not multiple fans👍

I drug out the registry and re-read the section about CSX3030 and I see what you guys are talking about. It is grammatically incorrect the way it's written but you're correct, it's referring to the SC series, each having a fan in front of the radiator.
I'm sticking too leaf spring cars!!

So what do you think Greg? Switch it to a single fan?

About 2 years ago Mickmate was working on a single fan kit for 427 cars with correct fan blade, etc. I'm not sure if he ever got everything he needed for a complete unit or not.
