Default Need diameter of tubing for the ...

Continuing to work on my "reasonably authentic" build. Working on the underside of the trunk and hood (fiberglass - Factory Five) and want to add a piece of tubing around the perimeter as found in the original alloy cars. Can someone please provide to me the OD of the tubing. Was it aluminum? I'm hoping that a length of aluminum electrical conduit of the right OD and some time and are with a pipe bender, I can get there and then attached it to the bottom of the hood and trunk lid with rivets and a bolt with an appropriate head shape.
Suggestions, concerns, creative input, and moral support all greatly appreciated.
Best
Ron

Hi Picah,
When it comes time for bonding, go for epoxy or urethane panel adhesive. Consider creating the hem flange as well along with your perimeter tube which will give you great surface area for your adhesive and a more original look since you're going the distance. Kiwi has a recent picture of that as well in his build thread.

Good luck,
Mike.

You know that EMT is sized by I.D. and not O.D., right? If you're after something close to 3/4" O.D., you'll want 1/2" EMT. It's just under 3/4" outside.

Mike:
Thanks for your suggestion. I have been in communication with kiwi and he has been extremely supportive of sharing some info on the details of the construction of the lower surface of the hood/trunk lids. I have been spending some time in achieving the effect that I want and have enjoyed the challenges. The tubes will be a great addition starting with the Factory Five car as the basis of my build.

Larry:
Yeah you are correct. Thinking and typing too fast (or not thinking enough!). Also, the conduit is more rigid than aluminum tubing and therefore harder to work with. I do not need the steel as it will be cosmetic and not structural. So I have located some AL tubing .75 OD and .65 ID. Should bend easily.

Greatly appreciate the great info I get here on the forum
Best
