Default Speedometer cable routing on 289

Which way is (should) the speedometer cable taking from the gauge to the transmission, on a 289?
Is it going via the engine bay or is it routed trough the transmission tunnel.

Many thanks for your advise/pictures.

Out through upper fire wall panel and down along side of the engine and transmission. It was/is very common for the cable sheath to be damaged by heat because of close proximity to or touching of the left rear exhaust iron header Y.
