If it makes you feel better, I thought I was going to get them for $150

There is something a little funky about those. They almost look like they have some kind of plating on the them. I have a couple and mine don't have a finish like that.

To me they appeared to have been used and cleaned up for the offering.

That could be as well. That price just blows me away though!

That's about as crazy of a price as at the BJ Auto Auctions for some of their cars.
More money than sense.

I understand a high price but it went way beyond what I thought they would be. I figured around $80 each, $160 for both. The last one I bought on eBay I got for $80.
Only one original car I've been involved with had it's original Eelco elbow. Most don't have them any longer and that elbow is one of the rarest parts on the whole car. A good concours judge will look for it though and most cars being restored will need one.
I've only seen four for sale on eBay in twenty years though and that includes these two! That's a long time to wait if you're an owner looking for an original part!

Well, I guess it's a good thing I didn't end up winning that auction. Someone on EBay was blowing a bunch of these things out for CHEAP! No idea what rock these were hiding under all these years, but I guess we can cross them off the unicorn parts list. Anyone else get in on it?

So what's the story on those? Did you find a bag of elbows?
One word of caution, I have two elbows that the script faces the other way. I don't know what the story is with them but as of yet, no original Cobra has been found with them.

Hi Larry,

Looks like these are indeed the ones where the script goes the other way. I should have guessed there would be some obscure nuance involved . Here's the auction link.

Regardless, I've got 20 of them. Maybe I'll make a necklace...

Now that's interesting! Back up a little first though. The original Eelco fuel elbows as used on the Cobra's Carter fuel pump have 1/8” NPT thread. I have one of those. The other two I have also have 1/8” NPT thread but the script faces the other direction, the same as the ones you bought. However, the ones you bought look to be flare fittings and larger than 1/8”. 3/8" flare maybe?
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but those won't even thread into the fuel pump.
They could be valuable for some other application though, I just don't know what it is. Maybe some searching around might yield some info. They're not what was used used on original Cobras but maybe some other car. I don't think I'd put them around my neck just yet! Maybe after some research!

Wow, strike 2 and 3! No problem - they were inexpensive. The education received was well worth the price of admission. Appreciated as always.

Larry
1/8" Male NPT X 3/8" hose for the 1962-63 221/260/289 Ford pump inlet.

EelcoŽ offered a family of die cast with their logo fittings based on a single die casting pattern. Raw castings could be machined for different sizes of tapered male pipe threads, straight male pipe threads, or inverted male flare inlet.

Shelby American used two sizes of Eelco male national pipe taper X 3/8" hose fittings. 1/8" MNPT for Cobra fuel pumps, 1/4" MNPT for a drain line in CSX2287 if memory serves, and the 1/4" in very late 427 Cobras for fuel pumps. At least one version of "other" has enough metal left to be reworked to an 1/8" MNPT inlet.

Yes, 1/8” thread! I’ll correct it for record.
