"Useless Trivia" for the FIA replica fans...
While doing some research for an article on an early race, I found this little bit of trivial info that may amuse the FIA replica fans..
You always see Coupes and FIA-style replicas built with the "map light" on the outside of the door, to illuminate the meatball numbers...
Well, first, the real cars were only configured with these light for the 12 and 24 hour 'endurance' races, like Sebring and Daytona...and further, they were only used starting in 1964.
In 1963...they cleverly used spare license plate light assemblies to illuminate the numbers... not as pretty, but they did the trick.
