differences between 427 FIA and SC cars
All I know is what I've read in the Original AC Ace and Cobra restorers guide. That resource lists the SC cars as having side pipes, hood scoops, and drivers rollover bar. To quote Rinsey Mills "Both the side pipes and the roll bar should be black, not chrome." As I remember he said something to the effect- Shelby only put black pipes on these cars, other colors or chrome was done by the owners after delivery and is not correct regarding originality. The intake manifolds were I think steel rather than aluminum and the compression was lowered, as well as the carburation was changed from a twin to a single Holley. The SC cars did have the huge FIA 32 gallon fuel tank, which left very little to no trunk available.

Guys...you're on a side trip....
The original question:

Can anyone verify the color of the side pipes on the S/C cars?
|
Side pipes on Comp and S/C came either black or white paint; the customer could specify.
BTW, The Mills book is good, but not always correct.

Ron, I don't doubt there are errors in the Mills book that is why I sited it as the resource. Where are you getting the White or Black painted specified by owner? Is that from some old Shelby ordering forms or literature? I'm really interested in SC originality. I have not found much beyond the Mills book to use as a resource. Are there other places to get info. besides the book and the registry?

You're in the right place...
Some of us have done quite a bit of research, both first and second-hand, on details of the Comp and S/C cars...plus we have a few Comp and S/C owners and ex-owners on the forum.
Ask any specific questions you might have in a new thread in this sub-forum.

what about the "chromed" side pipes, these are just dress-ups that the owners did?
thanks.

On Comp and S/C's, I believe the owners would have done the chroming after delivery. Certainly most Comp cars would be painted, altho I know of at least one that got chromed while it was still competing, but it was delivered with black pipes, like most were.
