Default A-arm attaching brackets

Does anyone know if the brackets welded to the main tubes that the A-arms attach to on early Cobras are the same in the rear and front? I am working on an Ace which is supposed to have the same suspension mounting pieces as the early Cobras and may need to replace one of the front brackets. I have a spare labelled "rear" and it looks the same, but don't want to weld it on and find out later it is slightly different than what I need.
Thanks,
Jay

Hey Jay, you can tell pretty easily by measuring from the frame tube to the bolt centre. That is the critical distance and you would set it in position by running a (threaded) rod through the remaining three brackets and into the bracket you are replacing. It's now fitted relative to the other three the last dimension you need is the spacing between set with washers or a bush or similar. I believe they are the same, if you need pictures or help let us know.

Thanks Mick.
That distance to the hole is the same on the spare one I have so I am probably good to go with it. Thanks for the idea on running a rod through the existing ones to check alignment. Although, I cannot line up all 3 in the front as the one still has the pin stuck in it, I should be able to get a fairly accurate assessment using the clear one.
Thanks,
Jay

Default A-arm attaching brackets

Jay,

It's been sometime since I looked at an ACE chassis. I do know the 289 Cobras had slightly different configurations on the front and rear brackets.
The ACE may have used the same front and rear.

The one on the left is the front. With the exception of the gusset they are the same.

Thanks for the picture John. None of mine have gussets and I rechecked this afternoon and the front and rear look (and neasure) the same on my car. Could the gusset version be for a rack and pinion car?

The gussett is probably one of the minor impovements when the AC chassis was adapted to the Cobra (work in progress).

the mounts were changed to the ones in the attached image when they went to rack and pinion steering.
