I came across this website while searching for information regarding some of David Wagner's 289 projects. Thought this might make for some interesting reading and reference if it hasn't already been listed here. Enjoy!

Default Dubious

In March of 2005, I bought the title and rights to CSX2404. This car was stolen in 1979 from a Mr. Dunn of Warwick, RI. Mr. Hoke Rawlins of Classic insurance of Atlanta paid Mr. Dunn for his loss and kept the title until it was sold to me. It is now titled in my name in South Carolina. I have all documents and bill of sale including a letter from Mr. Rawlins, the owner of the insurance company.

This car started with a motor, transmission, radiator, and differential from an original Cobra from Lynn Park's collection of rare Cobra parts. Mike McCluskey did the aluminum body to exact 289 specs and did the paint, suspension, brakes, and more. David Wagner did an excellent job on the final assembly, using correct, original parts from front to rear. We hunted down all the hard to find parts; all old SW gauges in an original Cobra dash, clock, glove box lock, alternator, surge tank, valve covers, cast iron headers, and much more, even a set of NOS AC knock-offs. The trunk is complete with a jack, top bows, top, and side curtains. All the numbers are in the proper places.

Calling this 289 an original is stretching it a long way

Hope he had a frame and body from 2404 to start with. It is a FEDERAL crime to hopscotch vehicle identification numbers from car to car

the owner of those cars is Billy Weaver of Greenville SC and the owner of Greenville Harley Davidson. He is a standup guy and friend, I have seen the cars and they are fantastic, and I can assure you he is not representing the cars in any way.

I think this car will fall into the same place in history as the Hemi Cuda clone cars, as long as they look smell sound like the real thing someone will pay the price. The car is a nice copy/air car just like a few rebodied Shelby's out there.
As the supply dries up the price goes up.
He won't get into the same can of worms a over a duplicate title/box of parts with a door Vin number a chunk of New frame and build a car then the real one appears then you have a 175K in a kit car.
He has the original title so IF or When the original frame doors or any Vin numbered parts pop up he can claim them problem solved.
Thirty years down the road this won't make a bit of difference just like the Hemi clones....

I have seen Billy's cars in person and he represents them exactly as they are. He immediately told me that CSX 2404 was a recreation before I had even looked at it. It is the best recreation I have ever seen, and cars passed off as "original Cobras" have been constructed from less original stuff than this one.

CSX 3346 is the most original 427 Cobra in existence, in my opinion. I am unaware of another one like it. Completely documents from day one, excellent chain of ownership (only 3 owners, including Billy, I recall), and every original piece is there with all the original markings on the drivetrain, that I have never seen before on a Cobra. These were confirmed by a Ford powertrain expert than understood and identified the markings as being correct, while I was standing right there. It is an amazing time capsule that exists no where else.

Congratulations to Billy on this great find!

I think I missed you by an hour or so Jim when you were down at Chads to look at those cars. I think the red one is back at chads for a little electrical work

I'm sorry I missed you. What an incredible collection of Ford powered cars he had in that shop. I wanted every one of them. I really liked his "new" 289. Very nice car--CSX 2460, as I recall. I have been told he has closed that shop. Too bad. He had several Shelbys he wanted to sell back in May, 2008. I don't know if he still has them or not. Do you know?

Jim

I am sure the GT350s are still there, the 289 car is gone, but he is still working several nice cars. He just finished my 67 restomod work and it looks fabulous. tough time to be in that business.
