Starter problem

I have a starter problem, it has happen twice both times the starter has
engaged with the flywheel while the car is moving making one hell of a noise it will last about one minute and stops. I get it home and try to re-start the motor and the starter does nothing. A friend said it's a intermittent short in the ignition switch, causing the solenoid to engage. Any other Ideas before I change the starter and switch??
