Default Did the SPCN/SB100 (#196) process...

....and still got a notice on my registration renewal to get a smog check!

Luckily I kept a phone number for some helpful folks at the Sacramento DMV. I called them yesterday and they confirmed that I should not have received a smog check notification. According to the person I talked to, the BAR referee (El Camino CC) should have made some sort of computer entry to the effect I was permanently exempt from smog checks, but for some reason did not....now the kindly DMV folks are going to discuss the issue with their management to determine how this gets properly sorted out.

So, a friendly heads up to others who may have had their BAR checks done at El Camino CC......

SPCN/SB100 registration in California--the gift that keeps on giving (like a recurrent migraine).

After countless hours on hold with the BAR and DMV I finally found one person at each agency who really put in the effort to resolve the issue. I don't know who's fault this was--BAR or DMV--but I finally got my renewal with no requirement for a smog check.

Of course, the "proof of fix" will come next year at the next renewal. Hope I don't have to do this again.

Longing for the good old days when work was the only gag reflex stimulus...

The same thing happened to me during my first registration cycle after getting my SB100. Luckily, it was fairly painless to get it straightened out and I've received the last two renewals automatically
