Default Plates are finally on the way!!

The state of the state of Illinois is redonkulouis!!

I started the registration process back in September. It use to be pretty easy but not any more. I finally had the State Police inspect the car sometime in November. He was the same guy that inspects those home made trailers made out of the bed of a '71 f100. He had no idea what he was looking at. I wasn't there because he just showed up on a work day so Lisa had to answer his questions.

He thought it was too loud. (It was in my garage with a metal ceiling)
He said it had side pipes. (so what?!)
He said it needed to have bumpers.
He said I needed a front license plate. (give me a freaking plate and I will mount it!)

He said he couldn't pass it but he wasn't going to fail it either because it would create a mess of paperwork for me.

Let me just say, Lisa was awesome!!!! She started the car for him. I don't think she has ever sat in the drivers seat. She told the dumb ass that it was loud because it was in a garage, she pointed to my original models and magazine articles that showed the side pipes, quick jacks AND a license plate.

I haven't heard anything since that day last fall. I haven't called because I didn't want to push and cause more issues. Finally yesterday I had waited long enough. I called Springfield to find out that it had already been processed and the title and plates should show up any day now!

What a freaking process!!!

This is definitely the last car I build. From now on they will come with a title or I'm out!

Dean, congratulations..the good news is you got your plates. I lived in Ill. several years ago and at that time when you bought plates, you were instructed to make your check out to the guy (can't remember his name) that was the state Treas. (ie in his name only) which I told my Wife seemed rather strange. What was to stop him from cashing the checks personnaly? You guessed it, about two years later he took off with his new girl friend and they found shoe boxes full of cash in his closet. Sorry you had all the pain. Hope I have better luck in NC.

Sam

Did you get a temporary plate so you could drive the car while you waited for the plates?

Dean,

Wow what a nightmare that must of been. Took mine in for inspection a week ago, took 20 minutes and then to the DMV and 40 mins later had it registered with plate. Got home and noticed they miss type a letter in the vin so had to go back......they voided it and did it again. Hope all is great with your car sure looks good....

You going to San Marcos or Tulsa this year?
