This is going back 16 years but I couldn't get an SB# before Jan 1 and the CHP wouldn't give me a VIN # before I had the SB#. Once I had the SB# everything else was easy. CHP, BAR, getting my license plate. Get in line at the DMV early Jan 2 to get your SB100. I have heard the demand is not the same as it was 16 years ago so you may have it easier but be Covid aware, things may have changed.

Back 16 years ago there was more demand than supply. California hasn't run out of SB100's for quite a few years.

Not that there's much of a difference at this time between now and Jan 4 (which is the first business day of 2021)
