Default Nevada classic registration requires classic insurance

The following clause appeared in my renewal packet for our daily driver...

"Effective January 1, 2023, vehicle owners with Classic/Classic Rod or Old Timer plates must provide proof that the vehicle is covered by Nevada liability insurance and is specifically designated for classic or antique vehicles. Customer must provide the declaration page from the insurer for first time registration and/or renewal for classic or antique vehicles. "

Nevada typically follows CA regulations by a few years. Is this showing up elsewhere?

We can’t drive Classic tagged cars regularly in Oklahoma.
The last line on application is,
“Affiant further states that the vehicle described above will travel highways of this state primarily incidental to historical or exhibition purposes only”.

Yes, this is a loophole closing action to be sure that classic plates which have a published mileage limit actually are used consistently with that. (I think it's 5K miles per year).

Our classic threshold is only 20 years, so my truck is only two years away from being eligible. A contractor I used not too long ago had a 2000 Ram truck with classic plates. It's just to get a 5 year registration and dodge emissions. Not what was really intended.

There has been discussion about taking the "classic" definition to pre-1975.

Edit: I just looked and in Nevada the age is now 25 years so I guess I'll have to wait a few more years for my 04 truck Still, the thought of an 97-anything being considered classic boggles the mind.

Cars 17 years old and older the fees are $29.
Now we don’t have auto inspections.
