As noted by others...it is not transferable. The Mfg's MSO number is the identification used for issuance. The VIN from from the CHP does NOT replace it...it is simply the State's ID.

The fact that you and a friend did this before is just the kind of BS that will get this program undone in the future...like swapping junkyard VINs.

Go somewhere else to offer it. Thank you.

Question

SP1410,

Is your car still in the system down here? Also if so, did you happen to find out just how long they keep them in the system. The person that I was talking about earlier that came back had been gone just over a year I think it was. But when he decided to sell the car, he quit trying to find out if his SB-100 number was still good.

Ron

James - Good to know, as that question had been raised in a couple of past threads with no definitive answer. Good luck with the sale of your car.

I guess the question remains. If someone was issued an SB100 number and they decide not to use it, will the DMV make the SB100 sequence number available to someone else.(i.e. person not using SB 100 number notifies DMV and they show 1 sequence number available for 2008).

Ron,
My car's been out of Cali since 2003. It has been very confusing with a "yes" and "no" answer along the way. I finally got in touch with a lady that handles the SB100 stuff in Sacramento. She looked up my California VIN and the SB100 number and they were still in there, and ulitmately ruled as "still good". She did not know how long they stay in.

Doug "Got The Bug" - thank you for the good wishes re the sale. I don't want to sell my beloved SPF1410, but I've got twins going off to college in a while and I promised my wife the car would go to help pay tuition...

I had heard that if the other state notifies CA that the car has been registered there it will queue up the cancellation in CA. This was second hand info so take it for what it's worth.
