Default Vin Plate Location

I have an appt at the San Juan Capastano CA CHP to get a VIN assigned to my 427 Kirkham. I hope they will accept the Kirkham chassis and plate ID, but if not, can anyone recommend best placement of the VIN plate in the engine compartment and cockpit. I have not installed the carpet (or the kick plates) or any finish work inside. Trying to place an a location least noticable.

I had a great experience with the CHP VIN officer at the West Valley (near LA) CHP station.
He owns a cobra (Backdraft, I seem to recall) and was very interested in my build. Better yet, he let me use my chassis number as my VIN. I have two plates riveted onto my frame with the Hurricane assigned chassis number (HM1053). He said those work for him.
I had a similar experience with the BAR station at Pierce College in Woodland Hills. He said he would mount my SB-100 smog exempt sticker anywhere I wanted, as long as it wasn't on a removable part. He said he would put it in my trunk if there were bare metal showing. I ended up having him mount it on the outside edge of my firewall over the footbox out near the body. You'd need a flashlight, mirror and great flexibility to see it!
Depending how important using your KMP number is, you might want to make the trip up here.
Good luck
Matt
