Default Event idea for RnG

Clois, Dean,

What about adding a new event that is basically a "0-100-0" event. This would not only measure acceleration, but ability to stop as well.

I think this would be an interesting measure of balance for a lot of cars.

For me....if a person wins his class in this category, it would impress more than if he won the drag strip event for his/her class.

What do you think?

John

We have talked about that but I am not sure about what timing equipment is needed to trigger a timer at 100 mph so the driver knows when he is clear to hit the brakes. I am open to anything.

Sounds like it would be a lot of fun.

Maybe we can find a friendly of duty law enforcement officer to make sure that 100 mph is reached with his radar gun (similar to what the police do in London at LCS) and just do a stopwatch time for start to dead stop. I mean this is just for fun and bragging rights, not in deadly earnest, right?

Most speedos bounce a bit and may be inaccurate at 100 mph, but it's pretty easy to figure out beforehand what rpm's you need for 100mph, and the driver could go by his tach, and then hit his brakes.

I agree with you Dave, however as one of the organizers, You should hear some of the stuff that gets people worked up! You would think this is the final show down at LeMans! We would have to have a way to make it fool proof for scoring or the hassle wouldn't be worth it from my perspective.

You could get one of those Highway construction signs with the built in radar display so the driver could watch it and then stand on the brakes.

I know there is a way to make this work along with Bills idea of the dual autocross but I am not sure how we could make it fair because everyone of us has a speedo that is close at best. Maybe a 60 - 0 mph would be better. I would like to do a Zero to 60 to zero but I don't know how to clock that fairly either.

you could do a distance test.

have the cars start behind the line, take off and when the radar gun hits 100 or 60 have a flag man drop the flag and the guy hits the brakes. use a lazer range finder to bounce off a sign on a stick held either at the front or back of the car.

if you wanted to award points take the distance and subtract from whatever distance and award those points.

not a timed thing but could be another event.

you could do the same thing with a stop watch. flag man to start the car and watch, flagman to signal whatever mph, then someone with good eye to stop the watch.

sounds like a lot work for a little payback.

How about a half day of road course on Saturday for giving rides and playing around? This would not be for awards, just a time to give rides. Maybe for Operation Comfort donations!

Here is what you need:
http://www.gtechpro.com/ss.html#
It will do 0-100-0. (But I don't know how you hook up power.)

Another thing we are thinking about is in conjunction with the half day of play on
Saturday is culminating the event with a 25 lap Exibition race for full fendered replica or vintage cars. This would be only for driviers holding Vintage Racing License or SCCA License. We would implement the "NO TOUCHING" rule that is used in the Vintage Racing Series. We will know more in a few weeks after we meet with Gateway.

Keep the idea's coming...

You could apply for a vintage license and based on your experience you could get one pretty easily. I spoke with one of their organizers last week and he told me to send in a resume' with my experience I would probably be issued a license.

There you go again bragging about those trophies!

Default Bindfold driving test with a passenger.

Clois Harlan Bindfold test with a passenger giving out directions. Through a cone course at slow speed. It's not about HP or motor size, it's about talking to each other Rick L.

I like all of the ideas - but mostly the ride-a-longs for charity. If there's a way to weave that into the entire week of activities - that has the potential to raise a lot of money, and draw quite an audience. The local press would eat that up. Just my .02

John, my car is really more of a GT38 so it might come down to down force at speed to truly find a winner in the limbo!

Rick,

If I had to depend on my wife to be my navigator while I was blindfolded, all I can say is that there would be several casualties...
