Car has returned home. Most of the welding done, random discrete tubing left.

The work now begins, added John Bessey emblem. Motivation.....

WooHooo! Can't wait to see her again! Let me know what is still missin'. I'll see what I can do.

Well let's Getter Done...

I have to say that that body configuration (i.e. flairs) is like my fathers 289 back in the day. Any thought of doing a "Barn Find" paint job?

Mark

peterpjb 04-16-2017 10:35 AM

is that an aluminium body?
will you leave the chassis unpainted?

the front fenders are too wide compared to the rear fenders (m2c)

and finally... offroad tires ? ;)

p.s. the golden one looks really nice with the windshield :)

Will be calling MK, few parts missing.

Never thought about barn find paint job. Might be something to consider.

Flares are really not as bad as picture. It's a glass SAI prototype body so I will not be modifying, in person its pretty cool.
Planning alloy hood, inner panels, doors and boot.

peterpjb 04-17-2017 06:41 AM

in my opinion the front flares should be smaller than the rear flares, and in general a 289 should have smaller flares than a 427,

but for sure its all about personal view and personal taste :), cause really every (race-) cobra has other flares

i cutted my flares about 1,5" smaller recently, still wide enough....

That does look better, maybe I will consider that move....
The tighter look is definitely more British and cool.

Might then add alloy rib to the inner fender for the effect of alloy on main body.
Did you do that?

no, its an alloy-body

with further reflecting to the design of your flares, i think that design should have been the ac ace's body development in the first place, to me it is more harmonic and obvious than the slabside idea,
really cool that the flares are ending to zero

Not a key bob but smooth.

Is Ceandess still making them? I bought one of the new recastings a little while ago from the first run. I don't know if they are still casting them or not though.

Candess did a run, I believe Hawk Cars and possibly Brooklands Motor have them on hand that ere surplus to the ACOC members purchase.

I need to get one for MY car as well!

Mongoose930 06-02-2017 09:04 AM

I just bought one for my car - going with the dry sump cap on the fender. You can get them directly from Ceandess:

Chrome, Vented, Non-Locking, Flip top fuel cap with tear drop lever – 02517000CAB

Kevin

Bought mine too....

Mongoose930 06-02-2017 02:30 PM

Shipping was expensive. Had I known you were looking for one, I would have done a group buy...

It is a really nice piece.

Does the cap come with the base (neck) or do you need to purchase the base and cap separately?

Just the cap with female threads, you need to connect it however.
