Okay, time to pile on...........
Now those who know my car, "Know My Car". To use a phrase that has been used by nameless individuals, "A Cobra Shaped Hot Rod" but that is what I Built. If you don't know the car read up on it, as it is the #8 most viewed thread on the sight. I personally show the **** out of my car, because I like to share it with the public and it does bring a lot of joy to the kids and little girls and a overwhelming number of middle aged women, don't ask me why.... I get a few of crab asses who walk by and say it's just a kit, now I have to say yes I'm offended but I take it as an opportunity to school a Hot Rodder in the art of car building by getting his attention and taking him through the build via the photo album I keep with the car, I get more complements than sneers by the time I'm done. My car does better at sponsor judged events than participant voted. I was at a car show one day. A couple of guys were looking over my car and as they walked away, one says to the other "it's a replica it's not a genuine Bob Nell (in Australia a Rob Nell is a high end replica):LOL:

We all started this journey with NO knowledge...it's only through the process of discovery that we rule out what we don't want and whittle the decision down to a few tough choices. I'd suggest that through that process we can become educated enough that it's easy to forget how it was to ask those "should I be insulted?" questions at the beginning of our quest. There's a thread about that age old question "Is it real?" somewhere here on the forum...I use to go into a long discussion regarding how our replicas are far superior to the "originals", but now I just tell them that it is a reproduction of an original, but with better handling and reliability than the originals ever had. Even that's too much info for the uninformed who just want to know if it's a $1,000,000+ car in front of them...and hoping that a "less expensive" option such as F5R might just be in their near future. Just say "yes" to everything. I built a few other cars which you can't even buy as a kit. I just reply, yes.
A Diablo is essentially a kit. Yes, Lamborghini made the motor and transmission (and interior?) and the rest came as a kit to the factory. You get higher recognition if you buy an airplane kit and build it than building a car from scratch. No matter if you ever fly it. It is what it is. |
