I see three reasons: it could be a sacrificial crash box, the LCA needed more length than the extended main rails would allow for (most likely reason), or simply the designer had one length of tubing in mind per car (6meters, 18ft)


Yes, the rear suspension steers in roll (cornering) and changes toe in bump/droop.
I believe Morris designed that out of his car, relying entirely on new generation slicks for traction (and thus eliminating the tendency of the suspension to bind).

If I ever build another chassis, I would change the rear to look like a 289 suspension or SPF.
