Shell Valley Trunk Hinge/Bird cage support
I'm just putting in the last pieces of my birdcage and wanted to line up my Shell Valley trunk hinge first so I wouldn't have to do this twice.
I got to wondering (always a dangerous thing) how I would weld the Shell Valley trunk hinge bracket to the 3/4" cross piece just ahead of the trunk lid opening.
This is what I've come up with- I am going to holesaw the side brackets to match the 3/4" hoop and remove the flat metal base. Then I'll weld the end brackets onto the hoop to hang down the same distance as if they were attached to the base support. This way I'll have a good body support at the deck lid and also have my hinges at the right location- I think.
Has anyone else tried this? How do I space the hinge so everything clears, especially the deck lid at the lip when I raise it? That seems to be the hardest part as I look at it.
Maybe I'm just worrying too much, but I just want to have this right before I weld it into place. I hate taking things apart and doing them over- not that I've ever had to do such a thing! - Bob
