Powder Coat Cobra Chassis
Hello, I received a quote to blast and powder coat (black) my complete CSX4000 style chassis. The price is for the complete chassis & the birdcage. $450.00 How does this compare? Has anyone had a chassis powder coated recently? Thanks, Karl

I think thats a bargain.. I had a hotrod I built a few years ago and they charged me 800 bucks to powder coat it.

powder coating
I have a good friend who started a powdercoating biz in West Chester PA. Brooks Powder Coating
Ask for a quote. He's competitive, upcoming and does mostly custom work.
good guy too. Airline pilot who lost his retirement with US Air.
I know him. It will be a good application.
Hope that helps.

Karl,
I had my chassis, oil pan, block, intake, valve covers, timing cover, oil relocation kit, expansion tank, gas tank and bell housing powdercoated. Makes all of these easy to clean and protect. $450.00 is a good price if they blast with metal beads.

^
or try Brooks Powder Coating, West Chester, PA

That's about what I paid, if I had it to do over I would not powder coat,
black satin epoxy primer would be my first choice, it's easy to touch up.
No way to touch up powder coat.

I do not recomend powdercoating the chassis. You will eventually scratch the frame at the bottom hitting some road debris or when entering driveways. You will sometime also lose brake fluid or clutch fluid. Your powdercoat will be up in a mess and not be easy to touch up.
Get a good paint job with primer and that is ok. I have had to retouch my frame several times, especially after purging the clutch master cylinder.

Alternative to powder coat
Hey Perry, What is Black Satin Epoxy Primer? Who makes it? Is it an auto body product? Spray gun applied? Please provide details.
thanks, Karl

Powder Coating
Karl,
I will have to agree with the guys that reccommend NOT powdercoating the frame.
I have done some welding on parts that have had powder coating and not only do you have to grind off the coating (just like you would if you weld galv) but it reallllly stinks when welding. Hard to re do and look good.
I would use a good primer, good paint.
Just my .02 worth.
Thank you,

Powder Coating
Hey Alex,
Have to agree with ya on powder coating frames. There are a number of epoxy products out there that are tough and with the right catalyst bullet proof. The nice thing is that they can be ground, altered, welded and repaired and pretty easy to touch up or sandblast off completely.I used to use acrylic enamel with a hardner and had good results.Where are the gallery pictures of your progress????
