Equipment to Build From Scratch
Hello Everyone,
Can you guys tell me what tools I will need to acquire to begin the build?
I guess #1 is a TIG welder
#2..........
I have rented a nice 12 by 30 storage locker with electricity where I would like to begin my build of a 427 Cobra replica. I dont have the $ to buy one from FFR.

Building from scratch probably won't save you any money over building an FFR kit. By time you acquire all the material, figure out how it all goes together, then buy all the instruments, wiring, drivetrain, wheels, etc..... you'll be into it more than you can imagine. Don't ask me how I know this...... 
Your best bet if you want to save money is to keep your eyes open on the ffcobra.com classified ads and craigslist. Their kits come up unfinished for varioius reasons on a fairly regular basis and sometimes the deals are pretty great...

Well, can I build a buck and body? then put it on a FFR? Are there blueprints for the body available? Will it fit the FFR Chassis?
I can atleast save a few grand by building my own body............

If you have never done anything like this... you will probably become so old and unable to do the job before you finish. It would much more expediant to buy the kit from one of the suppliers in the most incomplete form and then assemble it yourself  |

There is a guy/company who builds 96" w/b Cobra bodies/kits that fit up with C3 Corvette chassis. I'm not sure of the name, but I think some info has been posted here and the pics didn't look bad. Building a complete chassis yourself without experience is not cost effective...it is a labor of love that costs big $$. Good luck

The most inexpensive Cobra is usually a USED one. A lot of guys look at the 12K price tag on a kit ... and 3 years later they find out that they have spent $35K.
There are tons of manufacturers out there. Check out a list I did.

If you want to build a Cobra inexpensively just put in your search words on e-bay and wait for a deal. If building it or putting it together yourself is the goal buy a body and chassis seperately. You could scratch build but I have spent more money on tools than car parts without doubt. It makes for a long project but you'll figure out what you want and works for you. I see a lot of divorce deals on these cars and that's a good way to score a bargain and help a guy out of a situation.

Please listen to the others advice about building a Cobra piecemeal , I started out like you thinking I could build one for less money "CHEAPER" than i was seeing advertised
I got body,frame, windscreen,and wheels for $9,100. Thinking I could finish it with no more than $10,000-$15,000 to put one together, after 4 months and $30,000 plus my own labor ( fit,finish,and paint on the body was the largest single item) I conceed it was a rewarding experience, but I realized it would have been less expence too buy
someones LOST EFFORT and adjust it MY WAY!!!!

I know a guy that found 3 different Classic Roadser kits that were either not started or maybe just a frame with suspension and he spent less than 10K each. Search for a deal, you will find one.
